Spoilers Could we end up in a totally different timeline?

Doesn’t the Juratti/Borg Queen story mean that whatever timeline we end up with at the end of this it might not be the original one we started with?

Assuming La Sirena’s top speed is comparable to Voyager, that’ll mean it getting to the Delta Quadrant around 2090-ish. If Juratti and the Queen stay true to their word and push the collective towards voluntary assimilation, wouldn’t that mean that everything, starting from season 1 of TNG (i.e., the destroyed colonies along the Romulan Neutral Zone that the writers have implied were to be the work of the Borg), would change?

Wouldn’t that mean that whatever timeline we go back to might be one where “Best of Both Worlds,” Seven and her family’s assimilation, Voyager’s Borg experiences, and “First Contact” never happened?

The writers HAVE said that season 3 shakes up the Trek universe, so... who knows. Not sure if they had a massive shake-up like THIS in mind tho. Their statements sounded to me more like as if season 3 will shake up the status quo of the Trek universe rather than shaking up the past but, alas, you never know. Matalas DID make a "are you sure"-ish comment or something on Twitter when someone was like "eh they'll be restoring the timeline anyway", so... ;)

Show runner has said there is no cliff hanger and this seasons arc will not carry over into season 3.............So I don't think so but hey Andrew Garfield denied being in No Way Home so I guess we will know next week for sure

Gawd, I hope that's true and S3 starts with a clean slate, so to speak.

It just occurred to me that taking the Borg out of the picture would change things on such a massive level, it would not just be the Borg.

Since the destruction of the outposts among the Neutral Zone in the TNG episode of the same name is what brings the Romulans into the picture (it’s said that they were somewhat absent before that), this wouldn’t happen either. So, you’d also have to probably erase or really change the relations between the Federation and the Romulans. Which, in turn, would also probably affect the Klingon Empire because the whole Klingon civil war thing was aided by the Romulans on the Duras family side, etc etc… it’s an entire set of dominoes that would fall if the Borg aren’t the Borg we know, PIC’s third season would probably end up being more busy with re-writing TNG than having an actual new plot. I’m not sure this is what they’re going for. Seems doubtful somehow? idk

However, maybe a few DETAILS in the Prime timeline will have changed. I can see something like THAT happening.

Why is it whenever there is a time travel story like this, in any franchise, people are always like "oh, the timeline is totally going to be permanently changed when they get back." ? That's never turned out to be the case before, yet everyone still insists it's going to happen this time.

It won't.

Temporal mechanics will drive you crazy...........in the true PRIME timeline Wolf 359 and First Contact are in the past.............they happened. When Picard and Co return they will still remember it all because they have jumped from timeline to timeline..........it's like the bloody multiverse..........so many variants and branches...............I just can't deal with it

Also, Guinan’s backstory too.

If Juratti changes the Borg around the early 22nd century, the El-Aurians are never attacked by the Borg and scattered across the galaxy.

This would change so many things that it’s no longer the prime timeline at all but indeed a whole new one. And given how much attention to prime timeline detail they’ve paid so far with all the references etc and how they go on about delivering a proper sendoff for the TNG crew, this whole “new timeline” approach seems very unlikely. :)

Honestly, it's more trouble than it's worth. I prefer Teal'c's attitude.

No.

I think we all know that the queen in "The Star Gazer" will turn out to be Jurati, so we're just getting back to the prime timeline we're all familiar with.

The Confederation timeline was a means to that end, but ultimately we are left with exactly the same timeline in which we started.

more like 2 queens, when the have was shattered by Janeway , Jurrati/queen may have went in and taken over, or the big green anomoly will be Jurrati trying to push into "prime" timeline. and the confederation becomes a new branch like Kelvin.

I'm pretty sure we have to wind up back at the point just before the Stargazer blew up to close the circle and have Picard induct Queen Jurati's Borg faction into the Federation. I also don't think it'll make any huge changes to the timeline because we've got two other shows (LDS and Prodigy) actively sharing post-Nemesis continuity with Picard. I think if it was just Disco and Picard still, maybe, especially with Disco in the far future, but I don't think it'll happen with three shows being relatively close to each other in that point of the timeline.
