In Death Wish they are transported to the beginning of the universe would they have been able to survive during the early formation of the universe? Perhaps build a colony somewhere?

There wouldn't have been any stars yet, much less planets. Also the radiation of the big bang would probably be too much for the shields.
Could they survive then fighting protons at the subatomic level?

That would be amazing, they fly around somebody's house as an ornament. That would be an awesome myriad novel. 1990s Christmas they've been shrunk and are trying to survive at that level.
