Could Star Trek XI be the first successful...

Zero, yup, so it's an EVEN number, put that in yer pipe and smoke it !

Well for me personally its been a long time since i had anything officially Trek that i truly enjoyed...And being a total TOS fan first i can only say that I'm over the moon they are remaking TOS in a movie....I have nothing but optimism that this movie will relight my faith that the Trek universe no matter how much there is can still give us some great entertainment.

Plus i never subscribed to the whole even movies odd movie making money thing, seeing as i enjoyed all the Trek movies right up until Nemesis, which although i don't hate i do feel is the worst of the movies, as it looks tired and bland.

And i have had enough negativity these last few years from watching my Fave franchise produce some absolute garbage across the board, with the Trek gaming franchise going down the drain and spitting out guff like Legacy, the TV franchise spitting out guff like Enterprise, and the trek movie franchise spitting out guff like nemesis....So its time for maximum positivity for this movie.

I will be there on opening day. :)

Yes, this is internally referred to as Star Trek Zero, quoth Orci himself in many posts over at trekmovie.com

Orci's so devious! :)

Of course, zero is an even number, by mathematical definition only. If you divide zero by two, that there's no remainder is more a property of zero, than of even numbers.

They are?
I haven't read that anywhere yet.
Here:

Brian: I’m not sure if the (zero) really means anything, but I’m really hoping that this isnt going to be the title. I would be fine with not going Star Trek XI, even if it’s just called Star Trek (no bloody numbers or colon), I feel that the Zero would give it too much of the “Star Wars” feel when they did the prequels.

Roberto Orci: Agreed. As we’ve said before, it will simply be Star Trek. We’ve used the term Star Trek Zero a few times to remind new audiences who have felt that Trek has passed them by that they can tune in and be introduced to the world anew.

I thought I was the only one. An Australian, no less. :)

I liked Nemesis.

I'm also a hardcore fan of Five-Minute Voyager, so, like, fifty points to you for having excellent taste.

On-topic: Despite Orci's prodding, I strongly doubt that anyone will actually adopt the "Star Trek Zero" phrasing. I mean, yes, it conveys a good message in certain ways, but it makes me think "Star Trek! Now with 100% fewer calories!" And that just ain't right.

I dont always concider making the most money to necesarrily mean the most successful. One can make a lot of money with a really crappy movie if he played his cards right.

I take it you consider TMP to be "a really crappy movie" then? I think it's the best of the bunch in many ways, myself.

Why the hell would you  at someone else's completely valid opinion? That's a  right there.

Count me in. My main disappointment was with the director's treatment of Data's death. He really missed an opportunity to have me sobbing for the loss of my favourite character.

Oh yeah? Well: ""!!!

To both of you. Knock it off, and let's get back to discussing the topic at hand please. Thank you.

I choked up, and he wasn't even my favourite. :(

I NEVER bought the whole odd numbered thing.

As a nine year old boy I was WOWWWWWED beyond belief at TMP on the big screen. III was the first one I saw as an actualy ST fan and I STILL love it for its "chase" feeling. GEN was pretty good but not great. The whole feeling towards ST at that time was a HUGE acceptance and celebration within the media.

The only one that bears out the odd numbered movies as being shit is V.

So, as I said, all bullshit made up by bored typewriter jockeys in the 80's.

Nemesis should have silenced anyone who still believed in the silly even = good, odd = bad superstition. Even if you're in the minority that liked the film, it's undeniable that its abysmal box office performance really damaged Star Trek.

Have you played ADB's Prime Directive RPG?
