Could Fury have worked with a rewrite?

He had a point about three types of people.

The people indifferent to Kes who found it amusing(I'm in this group)
The people who just don't know/care
The people who loved Kes, and the episode basically took their favorite character and turned her into a psycho crazy witch.

Personally I think it would've been more humorous if she killed Seven instead of Torres... take my place will you! ;)

The real problem with Fury is... for a character piece it basically takes the character and craps all over her. You bring her back for nostalgia's sake and then... after a time shifting push of the reset button just send her on her way again. Why was she even mad? I mean if she was angry over being abandoned or something maybe I could see that but she was just made she had changed and couldn't go home... okay....

Since apparently Kes can just will herself across the galaxy, why didn't they ask her for that 10,000 light year push trick again either?
 
Fury was rewritten.

They gave Jennifer the script, she said no thank you, they asked what she wanted changed, compromises were made, typewriter monkeys were whipped, and Jeniffier Lien got a writing credit on IMDB.
 
No, "Fury" should never have been written at all. Rewriting it would not have made that sick, morbid episode better.

Those in charge had two options: They could have come up with a good Kes come-back story or they could simply had left it as it was after "The Gift". Instead they did choose a third option in which the character was destroyed and humiliated. Adeliberate insult to the Kes fans.

If you want a good Kes come-back story, then read "Coming Home" on my Kes site. ;)

As for Jennifer Lien's writing credits, the noble and benevolent people who came up with "Fury", this lovely gift to the Kes fans actually planned to kill of Kes in the episode. Jennifer had objections to that and made them change that. That's why she has writing credits for the episode.
 
Well after killing everyone in the teaser, it's about what she deserved.

Although Janeway did whack her in the past.

A temporal doppleganger arriving at the end is hardly a compromise, unless Janeway was going to kill that Kes too in the original undoctored script.

Kes dying twice would have fit the story better, especially after that rant about how after she went back to Ocampa to live with her friends and family, but they all thought that she was a freak who they were deathly afraid of... But in the end, despite having only weeks left to live, plots a 30 year journey home to be with those same pigignorant racists who fear her because she's a freak.

Kes will always be a poor man's Trance Gemini.
 
That makes no sense.

Imagine this however...

Every couple months a Kazon city ship came back because they calculated that she must have died of old age by now surely...

And she rips that ship in half with her mind.

:)

As long as those Cormaline deposits are gagging to be exploited, they're going to keep coming back.

I think they meant Kes to be senile, but they failed miserably to get that across. It could have been a sad but meaningful episode. It wasn't.
 
Kes going senile in her final years would've been more interesting in it's own right without the crazy time travel stuff. A teaser of Kes in her ship barely remembering Voyager except that they brought her pain or something would've really set a tone for the episode. But even with her memory going crazy I can't see her being violently vengeful. That's just way too out of character. Even in her strongest moments like in Warlord, sure she had an inner strength and resolve, but she wasn't just plain offing people.
