In the lap of squalor I assure you.
What is a bad writer? Was the Bible off, and by off I mean as in do you eat the rank 6 week old apple? Who is to blame and had deviating from the product model which had served the franchise so well since the 60s become a perfect jumping off point for rubes afraid of the complex and unfamiliar as much as a jumping on point for those interested in a more enlightened broader definition of Star Trek because it was time to finally rip off the competition? And how well was that theft done that the balance between the two tipped so unfavourably unexpectedly and unfortunately?

Surely not rocking the boat would have kept the zombies in line? And worse writers afraid of trying something new, afraid of thinking outside the box and rigidly staying the course would give the audience exactly what they wanted... Episodic disconnected portraits of shining heroes who face no consequences and do not learn anything from their experiences that they are free to face down blank slate the same morality play next week and the week after again... ;)
