Cougar Mascot: Offensive to Middle Aged Women

You have got to be kidding me with this one.

What a world we live in.

It reminds me of the time I was reading FHM magazine many years ago and someone wrote in bitterly complaining about how the magazine would stoop so low as to endorse the Texas Rangers since they were originally chartered not as a law enforcement organization but as a vigilante group determined to harass and murder Hispanics. The problem was - the article the guy was complaining about was about the baseball team.

The school board could have avoided this controversy had they simply said "there are already several groups using the nickname "Cougars" in the area" and skipped the "we're afraid we might offend someone" shtick.

Which was no doubt cover for "we don't want cougar jokes".

That's just it. It wouldn't matter what their REAL motivation was, so long as they had this less ridiculous cover story.

With stories like these i'm always grinning at those who take offense because they are the ones whose mind has made the connection so who's dirtier?

If i went to my parents and let them describe to me what a cougar is they'd mention the animal and then stop.. not everyone has the dictionary for potentially offensive words on their nightstand table.

True. And some parents would probably honestly not know what it means. As for teens: their teens, the can make anything into a dirty joke-- whether it's a good dirty joke or not is subjective.

Especially with the Irish.

~breaks beer bottle on table and points it at RJDiogenes~ I find that offensive to my culture (that I'm three generations removed from) you apologize

You'd better not piss off Irishmen, mate. I did so once, accidentally, might I add. And I ended up in the ER with half a whiskey bottle sticking out of the back of my head.

Good times. I've been avoiding that pub like the plague since then.

We call that an "Irish Kiss".

If they were really mad at you, they would have left the whole bottle.

Seriously, though. That's messed up. Hope you're okay now.

Thank god my girlfriend is from England, not Ireland...

One thing is certain, I didn't become any less crazy. Seriously though, I'm fine now. Happened maybe a year and a half ago.

My grandfather was born in Ireland and my uncles think that they were born in Ireland. They are all quite proud of their drunken, violent heritage and have all done their part to continue the tradition. :rommie:
