By the way, there is already a male officer in TNG who very often interacts with someone else's children and cares for them : Data. And no one seems to give a sh*t about it at all, despite the fact his brother was a criminal mind who helped annihilate a whole planet. He is no more responsible of his brother's mistakes than the average guy is responsible for a pedo sicko's crimes. Just because someone is male doesn't make him less trust-deserving.

Neelix took Naomi into the holodeck plenty of times and spent lots of time with her and no one was concerned.
I don't know if this episode would look different now. It's true that in the early 90's we were much more relaxed about who we let watch our children. Still, this is PG at the very worst. It's not like the Dick Van Dyke Show, which would never stand a chance today.

Isn't everyone on board in a situation to be caring for her though? Not so with Lwaxana

I'm suggesting that men are more likely to be associated with child molestation than women (Perhaps with good reason) enough so that what is going on in this episode is thought of as innocent (& I'm willing to admit it clearly is) but would not be interpreted so innocently were it a man, & as such, it would be unlikely to see this episode play out as such, gender swapped, which is why I look at it with a little more judgementalism than what seems like everybody else here lol

I still don't feel it would have been different had the genders been reversed.

No one ever batted an eye at Grandpa Walton taking little Elizabeth out into the woods to do God knows what. Lwaxanna isn't Alexander's blood relative, but she is the well known mother of a trusted crew member and friend. It was like a grandmother situation.
