Fan film of Space 1999 (season two) created by Yves Lapointe and Sylvain Labrosse when they were 16 years old in 1979. Filmed with a Super 8 camera and with a stop motion technique, this short film is a lost treasure that can finally be seen and discovered 33 years after its making.

This might well be the most action packed episode of 1999 ever. ;)

Wow. They captured SPACE: 1999's second season perfectly. A little too perfectly. The characters battle a plotting, though stupid, aggressive space monster with designs on their uber-vulnerable power core. And nobody ever needs to say anything!

Yeah, this is impressive on many levels. It exhibits virtuosity in filmmaking and animation. They use multiple animation techniques and seem to flow effortlessly and naturally from one to the next: stop motion, puppetry (holding the dolls from below and moving them around by hand), live-action stunt throws, using their own hands in the foreground, moving the camera over static sets, I suspect double exposure in the space shots; whatever works. The sets alone are freaking impressive. Pretty clearly a deep love for the show, desires to both tribute and lampoon simultaneously, a great sense of humor, and talent to spare. Genius.

Myself and Yves were both students went we produced this short project on Super 8 film stock. The original film is silent and the sound effects and music were indeed added last year. The pictures are from an old VHS transfer but a new digital film transfer was done a few weeks ago, and a remastered version in is preparation with superior image quality.
