I've never seen it spelled any way but "plomeek." It sounds like maybe the words were hyphenated for line breaks in the print edition and the e-book didn't remove the hyphens.
Blish spelled it "plomik"; then again, he thougnt it was green.
And you would not believe how full of typos ADF's new expanded Mad Amos anthology is, at least in the print edition. (Neither do I like the fact that I paid a huge premium for the hardcover, and it wasn't Smyth-sewn!)
