Corps of Engineers relaunch delayed

KRAD

Keith R.A. DeCandido
Admiral
Due to circumstances beyond my control, the release of Corps of Engineers: Turn the Page by Dayton Ward & Kevin Dilmore is probably not going to happen in November as planned. It should have been, but there were some internal issues at Pocket that happened completely separate from me; those issues have since been resolved and aren't likely to happen again. Unfortunately, we still have to live with the consequences.

Both Turn the Page and Troubleshooting should be out in December. *crosses fingers*

Okay, is this an E-Book or paperback release?

I know squat about the E-book lines and probably won't until I find an on the go e-reader I like. Just can't read comfortably sitting at the computer screen.

That certainly explains your post which has nothing to do with the text of KRAD's post.

Then why are you sitting at your computer reading this if it's not comfortable? Maybe you need a new monitor?

SOT, but when is the next paperback after Breakdowns due?
Right now. :) The trade paperback, Aftermath, which will reprint the eight eBooks that follow the ones reprinted in Breakdowns, should be showing up in stores any second (if it hasn't already).

And to Technobuilder: I'm talking about the eBooks. The next print book is on schedule, as I just said. :)

Rosalind: Believe me, I'm a lot more disappointed than you. The delays with the final two What's Past volumes and the first Mere Anarchy book were entirely my fault. This delay totally isn't, and that annoys the crap out of me. :scream: However, the situation that caused the delay doesn't exist anymore, so I'm hoping this is the last egregious delay....

I'm with Technobuilder . . . grabbing some BBS time here and there is one thing, putting in the time needed to read a book is another. I want a book that I can easily pick up and take anywhere. Right now eBooks are like if I went to B&N to buy a book and then they told me where I could read it. And if I wanted to read it someplace else, I'd have to jump through a bunch more hoops for them. And it still might not work, call the support line. I'd like to be treated as a valuable customer, not as a pirate. I've had so much technical trouble with the last eBook I bought; I purchased it legitimately from S&S, and can't get Adobe to let me move it to my laptop from my desktop. I own the book legally, having purchased it from the rights holder, and it's a third party software company that's keeping me from reading it where I want to!

I'm the same way. I simply can't read an entire story on a screen (computer or palm pilot). Reading threads is a completely different animal.

^ You do realize that there's no law that states you must read an entire story in one sitting, right? :)

Well, of course, but I can't very far and when I want to read a story, I want to be able to just keep reading until something else comes up.

^And you do realize that all I said was that I didn't prefer to read Books on my computer screen. What the heck was wrong with saying that?

I feel like I just got attacked a little bit. And that's not something I come to this board for.

I genuinely know NOTHING about the S.C.E. series of e-books other than what I've read about Capt. Gold in the Captain's Table Anthology.

Recently I heard about a shift in the S.C.E. line to something else (and for some reason I was though it was a paperbook release), and when KRAD posted this, I just asked for a clarification. I personally thought it was odd to be publishing a "Paper" book release for a series that was E-Only, but I wasn't sure if Pocket was trying something new.

So I asked about it.

I wasn't trying to post an inane question. Sorry if I wasted your valuable time by having to inform me of the fact that I have to print out BBS threads and the like since I can't read the internet any other way.

That was really Mean guys, and I want you to know it. And I'm specifically referring to ATimson, JWolf, & Christopher's Comments.

In any event, I'll apologize to KRAD and the rest of you for posting something which derailed his announcement thread. I didn't mean to cause such a fuss.

Also, I'd like to thank Scott Pearson and Emh for understanding my point of view and not criticizing me for it.

Technobuilder, it's not your fault, it's just that everytime anyone brings up the SCE E-Books, everybody starts talking about the paperbacks.

^ good post Technobuilder, thank you for not escalating the situation.

Guys, this is not the first time an ebook thread got derailed into a 'fight' between the ebook readers and deadtree society fans. Neither side is wrong about their POV, so: to the paperback fans who tried ebooks but didn't like them, good on you; to those who haven't tried them, give them a go before slamming it down; and to the ebook readers, try to understand that some people for various reasons do prefer reading books that are printed and not in electronic forms.

So, everyone, I like to ask that this be the last post this thread that's ebook vs. paperback related. Thank you.

I was kinda boggled at first when I read that the Relaunch was delayed until December. I thought the original release-date *was* December, but then I remembered that the SCE books have always been a month late, and that's why I was calculating Nov as December.

Question kinda on that topic, any idea if the ebook vendor-sites are going to continue listing these books under the S.C.E category if they have them, or as a new one?

(...is Fictionwise ever going to update theirs? Is Simonsays ever going to put Aftermath in the same category as the other omnibuses? Why do these misfiles bug me? :borg:)

... Will Mere Anarchy stop been apart of S.C.E.? ... :D
