Cool thing I liked about the music!

Norrin Radd

Vice Admiral
At certain points throughout the film, you could hear the beginning few notes of the original Star Trek theme (the VERY first notes when every TOS episode starts). I believe one moment was when Kirk and Spock are beamed to the ship. Were there any other times this was heard?

For me, the music was one of my biggest disappointments. After leaving the theatre, I honestly couldn't remember any of it at all, aside from the familiar theme at the end.

Having acquired the soundtrack a few days ago, and listening to it while working all the way through... it just doesn't do much for me. Everytime you think it's building up to something interesting, it deviates elsewhere.

I was hoping for a memorable theme tune too. Meh.

YES YES YES!!

I needed to make notes last night in the theater. Third time viewing and I noticed that for the first time. I can't recall all the places but there was a beaming to the ship time when you heard those first, single bell like peals.

EXCELLENT.

Are you kidding? The best part is the opening theme! I'm not claiming it's the greatest Trek soundtrack ever, but you have to admit that was very nice.

Different strokes, I guess. Sitting here, now, having listened to the soundtrack 3-4 times, I honestly can't remember how it goes.

I think the "Danger" music can be heard when the monster emerges from the Ice on Delta Vega. You know, the "DA DA DA DA. DA. DA DA DA" sound.

The main theme, ie the one from Enterprising Young Men, was fantastic I thought. Used a bit too much throughout but it sounded good. Hopefully that will be the 'NuTrek theme 'music in the sequels as well.

Really? I loved the music. It was really done well and added to the movie. The end scene, when Nero was dying, was particularly moving.

Agreed. I loved the musical score and will be most assuredly buying the soundtrack.

I know this thread is about the soundtrack, but I want to ask. If anyone is watching the original series episodes (I have them on my Netflix Roku box in the background), and you hear the transporter, does it take you back to the movie and the original trailer? It does for me! Talk about a long term effect of advertising!

But I like it. I love hearing the sound and thinking of those heady first days after the teaser trailer. Wow. I want this movie now on DVD.

I liked hearing the love theme that Michael G. used on Lost, Alias and M:I-III during the "what should we name him" scene at the beginning.

Heh, funny you mention that, when I saw it again today that bit really struck me. The death of George, followed by the shuttles slipping away with little Jim Kirk on board, then the titles - great stuff, stirring.

I think it's only available online right now. Already broke down and bought it.

As much as I love that theme, I actually would prefer it only appear maybe once in the sequel. I'd like for Giacchino to start fresh on the next one, especially since the Kirk theme was a bit overused. I also want more scenes like the opening where everything drops out but the score. That's just brilliant.

I bought the soundtrack on ebay this weekend, also could not find it in the stores. I enjoy it more and more with each viewing.

I honestly never notice the other soundtracks unless are were very dated such as chase scenes in IV when it was a little irritating.

At least the film HAD a recurring theme. I think what made filmscorring so great in the '70 and '80's where the immediatley recognizable themes for films like this. Okay, so Michaels theme may not be as ingenious, but it IS a recurring theme and I think it works very, very well..! I think for instance that the new Spiderman films could have really, really used a very memorable theme, but honestly: can anyone hum the Spiderman theme?
