Convention Photos with the "Stars"

My question here is just to gather some basic information for a personal project for my father.

I've never been a convention goer, so I ask this here looking for those who are and/or might be able to fill me in on the whole "Photos with Celebrities" concept.

What's the standard practice?
>Autographs of Stock-Photos which you buy from them and they sign?

or

>Photos Taken of Yourself and the Celebrity in question to which they then sign and/or personalize them?

In case it's the latter...What's the norm? and what do they normally charge for such personalized services?

So which one of the above options do people here prefer Both? Either? Neither? or Something else?

Any help anyone here can give or wisdom they could impart would be much appreciated. Especially if anyone has links to conventions or the like where such things are offered.

Thanks very much.:bolian:

At the SciFi/Comic types I've been to it runs about $20 for a signature on a photo you buy there.

Haven't brought any with me.

Have had no problem with snapping pics with my disposable camera, sometimes the Celeb will even pose with you. But these have been basic ones in the DFW area...not anything huge.

Well, in addition to what I said above...

Does anyone know what would be considered a standard price for a Professional Full-Color Glossy Photo of You with the celebrity of your choice which would then be Personalized to your specifications?

I think it is just $20 for a signature... unless it's Mark Hamil. Bastard was charging $100 yesterday.

It depends on the con, and the actor, of course. But yeah, most actors will autograph a stock photo that they'll sell you for $20 or $25. Some actors charge a little more - I think George Takei was charging $30 last time I saw him - and some charge a lot more. Adam West is $50, and Edward James Olmos and Kate Mulgrew are $60 or $70.

Some cons have photo sessions where you can pose with the actor and get a glossy 8x10 copy of the photo that you can get signed later. Again, the rate depends on the actor, but at Polaris most of them tend to be about $40.

Here's the way we do it. As I said above, other cons may do it differently.

Some will have someone with them who takes and prints a photo of you and the celeb together, which the celeb then autographs. Fees vary. I've seen anywhere from $20 to $150 for this.

Some will autograph a stock photo for you for $20 and then will pose with you for a photo using your personal camera.

As TorontoTrekker says, pricing and availability varies from celeb to celeb and con to con. One other big thing though is that, if it's a big name celeb like a Leonard Nimoy, you won't have a lot of input on the actual photo itself. You're likely going to be told where to stand/sit and how to pose for the pic.

jeez . . . I don't think I'd ever want a celebrity autograph that much . . . even $20 would be too much for me

The first and only con I went to was about 4 or 5 years ago (things my have changed since then, especially prices). The only big Trek actor there was Kate Mulgrew, and she was charging £20 for a very dark, grainy A4 size glossy stock shot of Janeway with the big Betsy phaser rifle... I was quite happy with that at the time. She wasn't allowing any formal two shots with the fans, unless someone behind you in line was kind enough to to take a shot of your behind in shot with the star, of course with the star's face more than likely facing down to sign your thing... those are the only shots I came away with. I was in seventh heaven for days...

I went to the first Farscape con some years ago. There was no additional charge for stars signing pics.
