Control & Countercontrol

[Endgame]

Was reading books with the Borg in them and interested in the themes of control & counter-control and the conflicts related thereto.

Genesis 1:28 is sometimes called the "Dominion Covenant" and relates to human evolution: be fruitful (quality); multiply (quantity); fill/replenish (adapt); subdue (adjust).

Adapting is about fitting in (changing ourselves to be suitable to our environment); and, adjusting is about getting near (changing our environment to be suitable to ourselves). Thus transformations.

These four can correspond to Aristotle's four types of causation: material (nature), formal (culture), efficient (nurture), and final (future). Each of these categories may include/exclude errors of overinclusion or underinclusion.

Designing worlds may be a bit "beyond freedom and dignity" as well as designing futures. But such can increase our 'degrees of freedom' and serve as counter-control.

Long live SF! May it not be incorporated into the forms of global control (Discourse -- to use Foucault's term).

Let's hope exploring the frontiers of space and time do not result in controlling them.

I guess I shall double post here too. Why not?! About governmentality: Consider the Stargate symbol for Earth. Two lines converging at an apex with a circle at the top. One line the controls over individuals. One line the controls over populations. The circle at the top the panopticon of surveillance.

Consider First Foundation physical controls and Second Foundation social controls and their synthesis something like The Borg. Is resistance really futile? Is friction inevitable? Are these mythologems or archetypes that do not pan out in reality? When do the counter-controls need to be developed? How does this relate to the singularity hypothesis or shall the controlled changes of human species never happen?

i have no idea what the heck you're on about, but the A logo in Stargate is clearly supposed to be a pyramid with the sun over it. or the gate. it's a pyramid, anyway.

I suppose this may be a dead thread! Oh well. Also dead would be discussion of what a post-propaganda or a post-terror society would look like. How are motivations restructured? Obviously the instruments of terror and propaganda must still exist. But how to move beyond them. Simply discredited as illogical and unscientific? How to educate children as to this topic?

On the other hand 'space is a harsh mistress' and command track individuals may need to be habituated to terror and innoculated against propaganda by being overcontrolled. The enemies terror must not be so strong as the terror of results of giving in to terrror. How many lights do I see?!
