Constitution class vessels in the 24th century...?

We know the Miranda-class vessels are still in service in Picard's era, but are the Constitution-class vessels?

I know 'The Battle' was supposed to show the ship, but opted for the 'Constellation-class' instead which was the Stargazer...

It's hard for me to believe since you have the Oberth-class, Excelsior-class vessels (which seem to be the default vessel) in the 24th century...

Although, I do recall that Morrow said 'The Enterprise is 20 years old. We feel that her days are over.' (Although, the 'Ship of the Line' showed another Constitution-class vessel during the Kirk movie era; I forget which).

I can't believe the Constitution-class was phased out in the 24th century. I think they would have been kept up as much as the Miranda's....

Some of the kitbashed ships in "Best of Both Worlds II" used Connie parts, but I'm not aware of any complete ships of that class still around.

Didn't Picard mention to Scotty that he had seen a Constitution-class ship in the fleet museum? It doesn't sound likely that they were still in service.

Ouch!

They're in museum's!

Come to think of it, didn't Scotty take the Enterprise--which was in a museum--to save or help one of his friends in the novel 'Crossover'?

Even though I like the Constitution, I can see it being phased out at the time. Given that there are so many contemporary models (for those in the 24th century)...it would look a bit out of place.

I presume the Ambassador-class, as well as the Galaxy-class was to be a step up...

We saw the engineering section of a Constitution-Refit floating around in the wreckage in BOBW, and the saucer as well, but the saucer was basically unrecognizable.

The reason for the no Constitutions was because of its status as a Hero ship. TPTB were worried if people saw the Constitution they would assume that Captain Kirk was there. Same reason why we only saw one Intrepid on DS9 and never the Sovereign.

I found listing and Registry numbers for 14 Constitution class Star Ships. The last one in active service was the U.S.S. Eagle in 2293 it took part in the mission to Khitomer that same year.

Actually we have no idea if the Eagle was really a Connie. We never saw it onscreen. Only an icon on a map. And the use of the ship design *as* that icon doesn't mean anything; it could have been intended as a generic representation of any starship.

You may be right about that... I remember when seeing "In a Mirror, Darkly", that I was surprised that they had brought Kirk's Enterprise to the Mirror UIniverse and killed him. (At the time, I had only seen ENT seasons 3 and 4)

...But by that time, TNG was off the air already. And the movie that removed the Galaxy from TNG hero vehicle status followed soon after the first uses of non-Enterprise Galaxies in DS9.

(Edit: Beat me to it!)

One might say that the in-universe reason mirrors this real reason. The Constitutions in their heyday would have been "hero ships", silver-bullet vessels with many expensive and inflexible extras built into them. While more mundane ships of that era would have room aboard for many life-extending refits, the hero ships would be crammed so full of goodies that there would be no room for modernizing.

I remember that in one episode of DS9 someone mentioned the USS Republic, which got a lot of fan speculation that that ship was a Constitution class vessel. It was mentioned as a training vessel by...Jake Sisko, I think. Probably done in "The Valiant" or the episode where Nog returns to DS9 and him and Jake move in together.

In the TNG episode where Geordi goes into the holodeck to consult with a hologram of Dr. Brahms, there is a model of a Constitution-class starship in the background scenery (with sideways nacelles.) Although that could have simply been a model of an old, outdated starship, since it was supposed to represent an engineering office, I'd wager that it represented a still-active model of ship.

It's possible that the Miranda-class was easier to build in larger numbers and were capable of numerous upgrades to keep them in the forefront of the fleet.

The Constitution-class--perhaps not so much?

Not that they probably didn't continue to exist in the 24th-Century, but perhaps they just weren't as prolific as other 23rd-Century designs. And the Federation is a pretty big place, so it's possible that it's rare to see one in most areas...

Probably.

They even had variation on the Miranda design like the U.S.S. Bozeman.

Another thing is that the Constitution Class vessels were older than the Mirandas or the Excelsiors or the Constellation classes so would more than likely be phased out earlier.

Maybe they were in service up to the 2330s where they would have been just shy of 100 years old.

Given their front-line status and being the most visible elements of the fleet perhaps they were retired as part of an arms-reduction treaty for political reasons. "Ok we'll get rid of the Connies if you get rid of ____"
