Constellation class technical manual

Posted by USSHathaway:
For anyone interested check out Star Trek: U.S.S. Hathaway for information on our fan film.

Looks like fun! How far along are you in your movie? I might be willing to help out, although I live in the Dayton, Ohio area. I know others in this area who might be willing to help out, too. If you're interested, then shoot me an email at the address on this page.

Oh, I did reply. Day before yesterday, I believe. You didn't get my email?

And everybody, rest assured that this thread most definitely isn't dead. It's just resting. :) While I may not have the time to do some more vector graphics at the moment due to Real Life (TM), I'll try to provide you with some new sketches soon.

Ever see the illustrations in the FASA Starfleet Officers' Manual or the First Season Role-Playing Sourcebook? Just awful. The nacelles are turned the wrong way, and saucer section is thinner and circular, not teardrop-shaped.

How about the illustrations in FASA's earlier publication, the Star Trek: The Next Generation Officer's Manual? ;)

I put the word "cannon" in quotes precisely to give the impression of a long hollow tube. I would imagine that a very tight focus sensor system, with both active and passive elements, could live inside the barrel and accompanying turret. The barrel would be shielded from outside interference, and stare at distant stellar targets in much the same way that Hubble stares at distant galaxies.

So the sensor "cannon" allows ships like the Stargazer to better gaze at stars? :)

Not at the moment, no. Real life (tm) interfered ... That and my participation in the NaNoWriMo challenge (see avatar).

However, I'll try to have something for you in the next few days. Stay tuned.

So I ordered Real Life (tm) to take a break. Here are two images that aren't quite finished, but I decided to post them anyway.

A phaser, basically a cross between the TUC version and the cobra head phaser of early TNG.

And here is the side view of the escape pod. Some details are still missing, and of course the rest of the orthographic views. They'll get done eventually, though.

The phaser design's nice, but wouldn't they be using the TMP phasers, which the Enterprise-C crew wore as sidearms in "Yesterday's Enterprise"? That's not to say there wouldn't be multiple designs of phasers in use at any given time, considering that we saw the TMP phasers again in TWOK, then got brand new ones for TSFS and again in TFF.

Dual warp cores?

Okay, I'm getting conflicting information off of websites. Can someone clarify for me as to whether the Constellation Class star ship has one or two warp cores?

Thanks.

Thanks.

It has twin reactors, each one like the one used in the Enterprise class, but a single intermix shaft.

Re: Dual warp cores?

I'll have to think about that some more ... actually I was planning for only one warp core (Matter/Antimatter Reaction chamber, anyway), with one shaft for each of the nacelle pairs.

However, I'm open for suggestions.

Re: Dual warp cores?

I'd go with a single M/ARC and dual shafts, but that's just me.

Best,
Alex

Re: Dual warp cores?

Glad to see this project has not ended. A long time with no updates had me wondering.... :)

Re: Dual warp cores?

"Third starship to bear the name"?

Just wondering. I've been following the thread for a while myself now.

Re: Dual warp cores?

Yeah, I'm a bit confused myself. There was Matt Decker's ship, and then there was the prototype for this class. I suppose there could have been a starship named Constellation in the time between ENT and TOS that we haven't heard of yet.

Well, there could be:

CH 1017 Constellation (Decker's ship)

CH 1728 Constellation II (the replacement, per the FJ Tech Manual)

and then

CA 1974 Constellation (the Constellation-class lead)

to make 3 ships.

I think there might have been a Horizon- or Archon-class ship, near the turn of the 23rd Century, too, but I might be misremembering.

Best,
Alex

Re: Dual warp cores?

Ha, fooled you all, didn't I?

I knew you'd all wonder about that, which is exactly why I put it there. I think it shows that there is more going on in the Trek universe than what we see on TV and read about in the books. It is not only possible but also likely that there was at least one other ship with that name before Decker's Constellation.

Re: Dual warp cores?

More.

Surprise, surprise!

Those images are truly works in progress - some errors still need to be smoothed out, and I may colour the first image if I'm in the right mood.
