Console hardware question.

Isn't the hardware the same inside every ps4 or ps5 if you have the same model as everyone else? i mean shouldn't all ps4 slims have the same hardware inside?

Here's the thing I keep reading that people have game crashes and odd bugs in certain games but if the hardware is all the same shouldn't more people be having bugs or crashes at the same time? For example Horizon Forbidden West which a lot of people are playing now. OK I'll go lie down now.

Well, I think there are revisions, small changes that might not necessarily count as new models. Also, there's also the age of the console in question which might have wear and cause problems. I think more and more people are also using external or internal storage expansions, with differing speeds which might also cause complications. But also, the games themselves might not be all that well optimized. For example, I'm playing Jedi: Fallen Order and that game has serious framerate issues.

I think games have only gotten more complex, and there's the fact that there are more console iterations than before, and we are at a crux where we're introducing being able to modify them to a certain extent.

I guess so. I mean I feel kind of left out I have a ps4 slim same as my friend and we both play the same games yet they have crashes and I'm yet to have anything big happen to my console so I feel kind of left out that I haven't experienced any major game crashing.

A symptom of todays gaming industry sadly, were it is the norm to release unfinished and untested games and hope they don't break the hardware they are running on, so you have so many bugs and issues even consoles are pron to fall over when they hit one, and worse of all are quickly done PC ports to consoles, which have been some of the worst over the last few years.

This is very true of Horizon Zero Dawn when it was first ported to PC, that was bug ridden but now it's nice and buttery.

^^^That game was even a mess on the PS4 pro, it pushed the fan so hard you could not actually play the game even with headphones on, and i still have not played the game and only in the winter months in a cold room will i play it on my Pro, i kid you not. lol

Well wow.... Runs fine on the ps4 slim and I've never heard my fan go loud with anything I play. But the back side of the console does get hot so there is that, but I've not had heating issues. (yet)

Wasn't there a PS4 slim and then a PS4 super slim? Or was that the PS3? Either way, consoles get revisions all the time, but they're not necessarily known to the general public, and they'd only be known by either their SKU or BIOS. Case in point, the original XBox had that infamous red ring of death that became such a problem, that MS had to push out a revision with a new board to manufacturers. The console itself looked identical though.

As for cooling, I'm almost tempted to use my old laptop cooling pad with mine, but I don't want to use up one of my precious usb ports. I could do it if there's a usb port in the back, I guess. Has anyone experimented with doing something like that? The one I have is solid aluminum, so should be pretty good at dispersing heat.

This is how my pro sounded with GOW and HDZ, and in the summer it was worse....this is not my video, just a Yt' er who has similar issues so you can hear just how bad it is. lol

They could simply have a HDD issue. That leads to many problems.

^^^The problem is not dirt, it is simply that Sony released the Pro with very inadequate cooling, and in games like GOW or HZD they did not optimize the games to run on the Pro, but rather went the quick easy brute force route, hence we have the Harrier jump jet pro model when plying said games........but in a later Pro revision Sony sorted out the cooling issues , but it's just a shame they did not do this at the launch of the pro models.
