Conquest of the Planet of the Apes remake!

Conquest made no sense in light of the revelations made in Escape. The entire reason that Cornelius and Zira were killed in Escape was that the US government discovered humanity's fate at the hands of the apes. Thus they tried to alter history by elimating the ape threat. So it seems illogical that they would come back and breed intelligent apes. I don't care if dogs and cat's suddenly all die off....that's when you get busy cloning Koalas. It makes no sense that they would turn around and do the very thing that they were paranoid about in the first place.

The one advantage that this remake has is that it avoids this bizzare contradiction.

Escape from the Planet of the Apes - Funniest of the series, but the mix of humor and violence is uneven, and how did the apes find the hatch that was blown off of Taylor's ship?
Shhhhhh! Dr. Milo was VERY resourceful. :p

I don't think that we are meant to think to hard about how apes that had not even mastered air travel or the internal combustion engine managed to fix a waterlogged FTL space craft.

I always assumed Dr Milo used both spacecrafts (Taylor's and Brent's) to rebuild the one they used in Escape. But hey, as if continuity/consistency mattered in SF!

Dr. Milo would have to be a real genius to use parts from Brent's ship. Earth blew up only a day or 2 after Brent's crash.

I find it odd how in the time between the 1960's ealy 70's(the time Cornelius and Zera traveled to) and the "Conquest of the planet of the apes" that took place in 90's, that the apes evolved so quickly to upright talking slaves.

Always bugged me as a kid...

One explanation I heard was that the bombs that fell on the cities were partly responsible for accelerating the Apes evolution.

Apes were already upright and slaves B4 bombs fell.....

The series ended up contradicting itself by speeding up the origin of the talking apes and the revolt. In the first Ape movie it was revealed the talking apes originated several centuries after Taylor's time. By the time the fourth movie rolled around the time frame was moved back to the 20th century.

However, it was interesting how the tampering with the timeline and Caesar's leadership altered the future so that apes and man eventually lived in harmony.

Looks like I'm in the minority of fans that enjoyed Tim Burton's version. It doesn't supplant the original but I didn't think it was all that bad.

Anyone else read the original novel?

How can they show Caesar as being the first talking ape without doing the backstory of Cornelius and Zira timetravelling to the past?

That's a great question. What made the first movies great was the insane timeline. I don't really remember the second, besides the end, or the last movies but the rest are wonderful.

Except for the twist ending, I thought that all of the films sucked - so I have no doubt this will suck as well.

Oh I don't know about that. It was just Tim Burton's remake that did so bad. It was almost like watching some gay porn - a complete suckfest. (like how I did that?)

Wow... that's terrible! How much gay porn have you watched?

I always rationalized that the virus that killed all the dogs and cats also accelerated the apes' intelligence.

Like I said before, nowadays you can just go the genetic-engineering route . . . .

Loved the original ape movie, and escape from, but did not care for any of the other films. I thought the TV show was actually pretty good though. The Burton movie was Ok.

The film is now called Caesar.

Caesar is not a remake of Conquest of the Planet of the Apes. This is a fact that Frank can't stress to you enough - his film will not feature talking monkeys, and it will not end with chimpanzees running wild in the streets, taking over the world. But it isn't entirely divorced from the world of Planet of the Apes, either. In fact, Frank sees his movie as the opening chapter in a saga that could span the thousand years between today and a world where apes rule.

What's most exciting about Caesar is that Frank is committed to telling a hard science fiction story. The science that creates a hyper-intelligent chimpanzee is based on current real world research - this film would just take that science one step further. He's also committed to telling a story based on character, not antic ape action. His plan for Caesar is one where you come to really feel for this ape, even as the final act sees him taking actions that may be hard for us to agree with.

Sounds interesting.
