Congratz Egypt!

Story on BBC.

Although going from a military to a religious leader, to me at least, seems more like a lateral move (to say it nicely) than a step forward (not to mention that 'the generals' still seem unwilling to relinquish power, in fact; have seized more of it), it at the very least was done by popular vote (even if only slightly more than half the population actually voted).

It's still a powder keg, but now it's a people's powder keg.

As I said: Congratz Egypt! -we're all hoping the best for ya'!

What say you all?

I say good luck to Egypt, I hope they get the government they want.

It's a farce now because not long ago the military council grabbed some very important powers after the parliament was dissolved. It's basically a military dictatorship with some democratic make-up. I hope the Egyptian people can turn this one around once again.

Whatever the outcome is, it's gonna be a mess, and possibly a headache for years to come for Western Powers. Just like Iran pre-1979, Egypt has US weaponry -- F-16s and M1 tanks (Iran had F-14 Tomcats). So if we ever have to go to war with them, we'll be fighting our own equipment. Fortunately, a Hellfire missile can still make minched meat out of an Abrams. Hopefully, it won't ever come to that, but you never know.

As for the political situation, I'm afraid the Arab Spring has turned into the Arab Winter. And we still don't really know how Libya is turning out, nor what the result will be in Syria. And with the Turkish jet being shot down over the weekend, who knows, there could be a Turkish-Syrian War break out.
