Star Trek Teaser Coming With Cloverfield

Earlier this month TrekMovie.com reported that the first teaser trailer for the Star Trek movie was in the works and it could possibly end up in front of the J.J. Abrams-produced monster movie Cloverfield. Earlier today Screenrant cited a source saying that the trailer will indeed be seen with Cloverfield and TrekMovie.com has just confirmed this report.

Apparently the trailer is complete, which was possible because shooting for the trailer was done before principal photography for the film commenced earlier this month. Indications are the trailer will show the construction of the Enterprise. Apparently there was even talk about the trailer showing with Paramount’s big Christmas movie for this year, Sweeney Todd. It is possible that Cloverfield was chosen for the Abrams connection or maybe even to help that film’s ticket sales with all the rabid Trekkies flocking to catch their first glimpse.

Cloverfield and the Star Trek trailer hit movie screens on January 18th, 2008. Get in line now to avoid the rush.

Eh? That doesn't make much sense. But who cares--new Trek trailer! Whoo!

I take it to mean, everything we'll see was shot specifically for the trailer... I'm bet alot of what we'll see will be cgi stuff, I hope there's a Spock voice over of some kind.

Can't wait.

You know, "Sweeney Todd" seemed just a little... odd for me to lay $8 down to see it, but if someone can scrounge up further indications that the trailer might premier there, I'll go watch.

Ooh, Depp is gonna try and sing? Well, I'm definately waiting for Cloverfield then. Or Youtube, whoever's first.

So I have to go see "Godzilla meets The Blair Witch Project" to see the new Star Trek trailer? :(

Only if you want to see it on the big screen; it'll be all over the 'net like a rash within a couple of days of the premiere...

nope, some pirate will post it on youtube on the 18th. It happens with every movie trailer. People have tried to keep trailers for movies and games secret, and it all ends up on Youtube.

But as this amounts to free publicity, isn't that a good thing? One almost thinks they might leak the trailers intentionally...

^^ Why leak? Studios officially release trailers to the net (in their full HD glory) just days after they premier. There is no reason to assume the Star Trek teaser will be treated differently.

Great news! Certainly to be one of the most anticipated and talked about milestones leading up to the grand re-introduction of ST onto the big screen.

How can you have a trailer when the film has not even been shot yet?
They would need footage unless they used still shots.

^^It could very well be a teaser trailer that includes no actual movie footage, but only footage exclusively shot for the trailer itself -- such as some CGI shots of the Enterprise that may never end up in the finished film.

Or, possibly there is no footage at all, and this is just a slow zoom backward away from a close-up of the "Star Trek" logo, some dramatic music, and some text reading 'Stardate 12.25.08'

I'll preface my post by saying that I'm not necessarily a "Bring Back the Shat" kind of guy. I think this film could be excellent without him. HOWEVER, if there was a way to include Shatner's Kirk in this film seemlessly, I would welcome that.

Having said that, there was a person on the IMDB boards who brought up the possibility of this trailer revealing that Shatner is in this film. It could go something like this: The trailer may include some slow camera pan close-ups of the Enterprise, then fade to black. Cue the Star Trek Logo, and then the traditional graphic that lists the cast, writers, producers directors, then a separate graphic that reads "and Leonard Nimoy as Spock", then right below Nimoy's credit appears the text "and William Shatner as James T. Kirk". Fade to black then cue the "Stardate 12.25.08" graphic.

If they are somehow including Shatner in this film as Kirk, I think this would be a dramatic manner by which to announce it.

They don't care about the leak, but I don't think JJ's gonna sit in the back row and record the Trek trailer with his cell phone. That's how most of 'em get out. Somebody films the trailer on their phone and emails it.

JJ might release an HD trailer, but it will *not* be a shaky cellphone movie.
