Confidential / Classic Doctors

On imdb, the living classic series Doctors are credited in most of the Confidentials of the first season, as well as various others through the four seasons.

I'm now watching the fifth Confidential "cut down" on the first series dvd, and the only part they've shown of anyone from the classic series was a few seconds of Peter Davison doing a cd recording at Big Finish.

So ... Where ARE the Doctors? Were they in the full versions as originally aired in the UK, and completely cut out for the dvds?

yes I think the first Confidental had all of the living Doctors on it, but yeah the cut down 15 minutes obviously miss alot, of a show that is normally the same length as the episode (it was 30 minutes in the first series)

From what I understand, they cut all the Classic Doctor stuff on the nuWho DVDs because of licensing issues. I have a bootleg copy of the original pre-Rose Confidential special that showcases all the living Doctors, and is narrated (funny enough) by a certain David Tennant...

was it? if that is true I find it hard to believe his casting is just a coincidence

I think he was always back-up if Chris didn't sign for Season Two. By the time the Confidential was recorded (it had footage of the press premiere of Rose, so it had to be right before season one began) I'm sure he was involved in some capacity. But, of course, he's done Big Finish audios for Doctor Who before the show, so maybe he was just on hand?

Tennant was originally considered for the Ninth Doctor and Russell Davies wanted him, but due to time constraints (he was busy with Casanova and Blackpool, as well as theatre work), he was unable to accept the role. Eccleston had told the staff pretty early on during filming, though, that he was going to bail after his first season, which most likely led to Tennant being the pick for the Tenth Doctor long before he was officially announced.

the confidentials in season one use a lot of material from the 40th anniversary show that the BBC did in 2003. the confidentials are always cut down to a crappy 15 minute version for re-runs, so you really have to catch it when it first airs.
