Concerning Dr. Simon Tarses (Old Spoilers)

I read both of these but it was a long time ago, when they were fairly new.

The problem isn't so much that we're focusing on the newer books, its more that there are just sooo many books. I've been reading Trek books for a good 25 years now, and unless a book was really memorable I probably won't remember it, particularly if it has been 5-10 years since I read it.

Both of those are books that I remember reading, whenever they first came out (long ago) - and I remember them being sort of generic and forgettable. :)

I got back into treklit in a big way last year, and reading "new stuff" has taken up all that time. I've read about 35 trek books since last October and I still have a shitload to catch up on.

Even though Pocket slowed down their trek line to only 12 or so releases a year, they upped their page count and the quality has been amazing. I'm following practically all of the various series now and going back and reading older books that don't really contribute to the current continuities, has been a low priority. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of excellent older books that Pocket has published and I don't want to make it seem like I think the quality isn't there; there's just only so many hours in a day ;).

That's pretty much how things have been for me to. Although I've been at it for about 4 or 5 years now

No not actually. I have a box of almost 100 older ST books from all the Pocket series and have both those books. I read Sins...in the mid 90s in middle school and don't remember it. I read Comets on vaction at my hotel near Busch Gardens and remember it was different, and liking it, but not much else. And being poor and living in a neighborhood where people threw rocks thru my windows last nite at 3:12 am :confused:, preparing to go back to college and all. there isn't alot of time to review these right now, but I will try to get around to it!:) Sorry this post isn't helpful.
 
I've been reading ST books since the arrival of ST:TMP in cinemas and its novelization, back tracking through the Bantam and Ballantine books in the early 80s, snapping up Pocket's stuff hot off the presses, and even rooting out things like Larry Niven's kzinti novels and collections when the ST ran dry till the next publication date.

I began falling behind when VOY premiered. One novel per month was easy; two ST novels per month meant no time for reading any other literature. I did catch up in about 2000, but when "Mission: Gamma" came out, I took a whole year to read the four volumes. By then I'd switched jobs again, had no more commuting on public transport, and surfing the 'Net has really eaten up lots of my leisure time in recent years.

The other thing I notice, having reached the age of 50yo, if I move away from the interactivity of the Internet to watch a movie on TV, or to read a book, I often tend to fall asleep! So, as ST novel's font size decreases, and page count increases, it gets harder and harder to stay current.

I think the only ST novels I've read more than once, cover to cover, are "Mission to Horatius", "The Entropy Effect", "Strangers from the Sky" and "Andor: Paradigm".

Ah, think nothing of it. I think most of us are struggling a bit, too....
 
Rush, I'm afraid I have to offer apologies. In the mad dash to get my school nice and sparkly and shiny for the new school year, my reading time has been next to nothing. And with my "to read" pile growing ever larger (Losing the Peace, The Calling, and now The Never-Ending Sacrifice), I can't foresee my having time to give Sins of Commision any attention.

In my defense, my original offer did saying "time permitting". Maybe your answers will be more quickly found (and perhaps be more satisfying) if you checked to see if your local library has or can aquire SoC.

So...has anyone read Sins... and remembered enough about Simon's story arc?

If not...looks like I'll have to keep my fanfic vauge on that point until I do ever find a copy....

Still...it would've been nice to see the scene where he truly
"comes to terms" with his heritage....
