concept art and set photos!

I believe saddestmoon meant that the red Excelsior is not on the screen in Marcus's office, rather than not in that scene.

Thanks Praetor and Andymator :) Yep - that's what I was referring to.

Gerbil - The red-hulled ship is shown onscreen (as I mentioned earlier in this thread, and in the thread I started a little while back, discussing the onscreen appearance of the mysterious red hulled starship - http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=213985), but it is not listed / shown on the Spacedock Manifest (on Marcus's display) - which is why I then went on to suggest that it might have arrived at the dock after the Marcus Office scene (hence why it didn't appear on the manifest).

Hope that clarifies things. :)

I don't think that's a misspelling, actually. I think the ship has a shielding device that prevents metaphysic radiation from distorting the crew's intellectual capacity.

This is why on the USS Enterprise you will hear engineers say things like "hand me that wrench" while on the Enterprise-D it is not uncommon to hear "hand me that hex-bolt decoupler."

They have them, but deploy them internally. The lens flares we see are actually only 0.2% of those generated within the ship. Without the metaphysic shields, the crew would be blinded and boiled.

I pulled some screencaps and marked some of the points of interest.

- The Vulcan refugees have several colony worlds and go by the name "The Confederacy of Surak."
- The Organians seem to be visiting in either a ship or shuttle.
- The Menk appear to have an embassy, but the Valakians may have died out.
- The Risan colony/embassy on Earth in SF is known as the "Risa Hedony," which is pretty funny.
- There are three new ships in spacedock that we haven't seen before. A large single-hulled ship of the Voyager/Nova variety, a medium ship that looks like a smaller half-sized Enterprise (hey, there's one for the small Enterprise crowd), and a very small spherical or tiny saucered ship with two nacelles.
- Weather might be free forming instead of controlled.
- There appears to be a lot of social unrest and fights between cultures in this Federation, including in Andoria.
- There is a Federation "Trans Warp Network" with nodes that penetrate deep within the Klingon Empire. Is this a transwarp communication array, a transwarp beaming array, or does it indicate some kind of speed boosting network for the ships?
- There is wormhole research going on near the Federation/Klingon Neutral Zone. Is this where Nero and the Narada entered this timeframe? The Narada and its crew was captured by Klingons after being disabled by the Kelvin.
- Coridan, Galorndan Core, Sherman's Planet, the Organian Peace Treaty (disputed), and a newly discovered(?) Khitomer are mentioned.

Here are marked and unmarked versions of the screencaps (click to enlarge):

The trouble on Andoria is interesting, I wonder if this "social unrest" within the Federation might be the start of problems that result in the Battle of Axanar? At least in this timeline anyway.

More than likely a nod to the reproductive crisis that is going on in the 24th century Trek novels.

Orci was a fan of Trek novels.

Was?

Seeing as the most recently-published favourite on his list was Ex Machina by Christopher L. Bennett, I'd be willing to bet he still keeps an eye on the novelverse.

I can't speak for them currently.

Plus, Ex Machina is nearly a decade old.

Has it been that long already?

Way to make me feel ready for the nursing home, guy!

You and me both. Seems like yesterday I read that novel and I picked it up brand new the day it released and read it that week.

Regarding the Spacedock Manifest imagery: I can't begin to describe how exciting it is to see those other ships indicated at the dock!

The smaller constitution-class starship is intriguing, as is the enlongated 'excelsior-esque' starship (smaller ship, below small Connie ship). My curiousity is officially at max!!! Also - the other Nova / Voyager looking starship with the refit-style swept back nacelle struts is an interesting new design.

:)

I missed those. Are there some images of just them?

Did anyone see this article on Trek Collective about the xBox Live exclusives? Apparently one item cut was this JJ Trek TOS Connie:

I'd love to see if anyone can find anything else out about this.

This would also bear out the non-canon Countdown to Darkness plot point that there was an Enterprise under April that was decommissioned before the ship we see under Pike in the 09 movie.

None that I'm aware of, other than them schematically displayed on Marcus' display (to my knowledge) - just what can be seen from the Spacedock Manifest.

For images from the display, check out page 15 of this thread - Locutus of Bored posted images of the display, and points out all these new starships.

Here's one of Locutus's images (from that page), highlighting the ships in question (bottom right panel, and top right panel):

^^^ in regards to the 'New Type of Heavy Starship" that Locutus pointed out in those images, I just found this online, which looks like quite a similar design (visually speaking) in terms of it's silhouette:

THANK YOU!!! I spent ages searching through my FASA manuals, SURE I recognized it, but I must have skipped right past the Makin-class. The pages were probably stuck together or something. I'll put that on my infographic when it's done, and credit you!:bolian:
