Computer Help: Windows XP... Registered To --

Picked up a sweet tablet laptop for drawing. Very happy with it... $250 off of Craigslist. Apparently you can buy used computers and stuff off of there -- it's not just for picking up lonely board virgins with poor spelling.

Moving along now... Being a used laptop it is in good condition... however when the previous user wiped windows he put his name in so it comes up registered to Chris. Is there a way to change that short of a reinstall? I really don't want to reinstall as that would require the external drive and smoke and mirrors and at least seven beers.

Yes! You can change the registered info, and the account name. I'll tell you how. To change your information, do this:


REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Type "Regedit" in the Run box in your start menu.
Find this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
You should see several values. One is RegisteredOrganization, and the other is RegisteredOwner. Click on each of these to change it to your liking.


ACCOUNT INFORMATION

Go to START>Control Panel>User Accounts
And you can change the account name and image to something else.

It is annoying that Windows labels Word files as being created by whoever the computer you are using is registered to. So I have word files that say they were created by about a dozen different people!

That's the reason I wanted to change the owner field.
