Composer Austin Wintory's Discovery Pitch

Austin is a very talented chap and a great guy, it's a shame he didn't get this gig... But then other Trek shows have used multiple composers over multiple seasons, so you never know.

Great stuff. Maybe he can work for another iconic show, Doctor Who! Since longtime composer Murray Gold is leaving.

I'm wondering if the decision not to use his themes might have been down to the reaction to that test footage. As I recall it was slated at the time so maybe when they decided to go in a different direction they threw the baby out with the bathwater.

Real shame, themes one and three were both much better than what made it on screen.

While I enjoyed reading his story I can kind of see why they didn't go with his music. It feels much too cheesy to me in some instances. None of the versions sound better than what we got.

I love Wintory's score for Journey and he is, by all accounts, a lovely guy. Would have absolutely loved for him to be a composer on the show.

Version #1 was pretty good. I especially liked the crescendo at the end.

As for #3, I like piano music, it's different and I thought it worked well in BSG, but I don't know if it would have been a good fit here.

None of that is outstanding. I've been playing in bands and orchestras half my life and that's nothing I would ever sit at home and whistle or hum.

This guy knew his onions. Three and especially one were Goldsmithesqe and would have easily been in keeping with the best of Star Trek's past music.
