Complete score released

So the score is supposed to be shipping this week...I've not had a chance to order it but am going to try and pick one up tomorrow if possible. I think it's awesome the tracks are all in chronological order of the film.
They're not.

11. Welcome Back, Spock (1:09)
12. Vulcan Gets a Good Drilling (1:30)
13. Hangar Management (2:46)

Vulcan Gets a Good Drilling should come later.

Umm.. ya they are. Track 12 is when the Narada appears over Vulcan for the first time, prompting Starfleet to send the cadets etc.. A lot of people seem to confuse this track with the drilling that is going on after the enterprise gets there, maybe they should have named it "Narada arrives at Vulcan" or something

Actually, Tom is right.

The Enterprise and Starfleet are already on their way, and Kirk gets Uhura to confirm that they are "Romulan" "Yes" "YES !!" *pfft* "Agh!! Thtapit !!!", then we cut to the drill, then Amanda emerging from her home.

It is before what you just discribed: (scenes)
Kobiashi Muru
Narara Arriving at vulcan (track 12)
Kirk's Hearing
Cadets in the Hanger (track 13)

Watch the movie again. There is no scene where the Narada arrives at Vulcan. The only time we get any clue as to what's happening with Vulcan is when the president of the Acdemy announces to the Cadets that they've received a distress call.

Do you really hate me that much Onebuck? How can Tom be right when you just proved my point? We never saw the Narada drilling into Vulcan until after Uhura confirms with Kirk that the klingon attackers were Romulans.

By the way, the music that's being played when Kirk is trying to find Uhura to confirm his suspicions is Track #15. Flying Into a Trphlthdl. Get it? Because he was unable to say Trap due to his numb tongue.

Hmm.. i will watch the film when I get home again. If I am mistaken, then I wonder if there was a scene that was cut? Because it makes sense to show the Narada at vulcan, then starfleet finds out, etc, etc... I have a copy of the script, I will browse thru to see if there was a scene before the hanger scene.

There wasn't a scene cut, it was just the same scene with the Narada drilling into Vulcan that was originally supposed to be shown earlier but edited it later in the film. This is a post from Jason LeBlanc that he made at "John William's Fan Network" website.

12. Vulcan Gets a Good Drilling - 0:25+ - 1-12 [0:00-?:??]
Spock's mother witnesses Nero's drill piercing the Vulcan surface, then Nero's Theme returns as we see The Narada in orbit, and a crew member informs Nero that seven Federation ships are on their way.

In the final film, this sequence was moved until just before The Enterprise arrives at Vulcan

In this day and age, isn't it possible for most people create their own iTunes "party mix" with the tracks laid out in any order you so choose, even omitting some you dislike, and to be able to return to that as a "favourite" combination?

I think the tracks are in the order they were written for, since the scene changed location after the score was recorded.

Okay that makes sense...I'm really looking forward to getting this. I have the original score that came out last year and planning on keeping that.

As long as some of the tracks don't merge into other tracks, otherwise you'll end up having tracks open with music already playing and that can be a disappointing listen.

From what I've heard of this release, there aren't many cues that merge here.

The only ones I'm aware of:

- Labor of Love / Main Title
- To Boldly Go / End Titles

Both of these are appropriate and justified, IMHO.

Well I ordered myself a copy yesterday evening and for those who haven't you'd better hurry if you want one there are less than 1500 left. They're still processing my order so who knows when it'll actually get shipped and arrive. I'm guessing not for a month or so.

My copy arrived in today's mail. It's a very nice set, in a "book" that's about the size of a standard DVD case. Disc 1's label looks like the top of the Enterprise saucer, whereas Disc 2 looks like the Kelvin's.

Won't be able to really listen to it until this evening while I'm working, so at least I have that to look forward to. :)

Excellent thanks for the quicky review Dayton. I hope then mine arrives by the end of the week but I'm predicting maybe early next week.
