Commodore Decker

The 1980 map set called Star Trek Maps include a booklet called Introduction to Navigation that proposed a variable to warp calculations called the Cochrane factor (χ) as a way to explain the inconsistencies in TOS's warp speeds.

I know that. But someone asked about ignoring the Cochrane Factor as if it was a part of Star Trek canon instead of merely a fan theory. So I ask what Cochrane Factor exists as canon in the ficitional universe of Star Trek we are discussing?

There are other fan theories to explain the contradictions in distances, speeds and travel times in various Star Trek movies and episodes.

Someone should not assume that a specific fan theory to explain those problems is correct until they have compared them with other fan theories to see which one works best.

@MAGolding No one claimed it was canon and I was just supplying background info since your question, taken at face value, indicated a lack of that background information.
