Commercials that Fail

I think the "I'm a PC" ads were better, esp. as a rebuttal to those insipid "Mac vs. PC" ads.

The "I'm a PC" ads were a stupid idea for two reasons. First, they made Microsoft look like they were on the defensive. Second, they missed the point of the Apple campaign and responded to something it wasn't saying to begin with.

Fortunately they don't seem to be on much anymore.

There seems to be a new one every two weeks here in Canada.

Anyone remember the Duracell family commercials with the weird plastic people? Those were just odd and disturbing. Not sure how they were supposed to pitch batteries.

You know, for all the commercials out there are a major fail, I have to point out that there is one group of commercials that I think are some seriously epic WIN. And those are those DirecTV Sunday Ticket commercials.

I grew up in South Florida, and I LOVE that Dolphins/Patriots ad - especially since it cleverly reminds us of that infamous 'snow plowing incident' which started the whole rivalry. When that Patriots fan heaves a shovel full of snow at the Dolphins fan's front door - that is just hilarious to me. Even after all these years, they are STILL trying to kill us with the damn snow!

And the commercial which features the Cowboys/Redskins rivalry and that sterotypical Old Geezer Oil Baron and his Hot Young Golddigger with the Texas accent...and "Troy Barkman" peeing on the Redskins fan's carpet? That is all kinds of awesome.

And the Packers/49'ers ad, featuring the lady with that awesome Wisconsin accent telling the priest about the 'party platter' she left on the guy's stoop (DIRT BAG). Epic win. :techman: "You're very tolerant, Loraine."

I love all of those ads. And I'm not even a football fan, really.

They are just great - all of them! To the point where I actually look forward to those ads coming on, even.

I'm not a football fan AT ALL, so my reaction is generally ":confused::confused:" Though I do think the party platter one is funny.

Does this commercial make you want to buy Stella Artois?

This is just huh?

Exactly. Those ads left me scratching my head a bit, although I figured they involved some sort of sports rivalry I was supposed to be familiar with.

Now if it had been about Marvel vs. DC fans or something, then I would have gotten it! :)

Or, in my case, Yankees vs. Redsox. :D (If there's ever been a commercial about *that*, I'm not aware of it.)

I agree about the Flo ads but disagree about the Most Interesting Man in the World ads. I find it annoying. Clever at first but now it's grating.

Flo annoys me a LOT less than that 'most interesting' dude. Flo is actually kind of cute, but the Dos Equis guy is just an arrogant prick.

Add me to the anti-Dos Equis camp.

"i don't always drink beer, but when i do..."

How effective is that?!?!

"i don't always vote, but when i do , I'd vote for Senator Butkis..."

"i don't always pay for my own dinner but when I do, I prefer McDonald's..."

Or maybe for TV shows...like say Dexter

"I don't always kill people I have an intense hate for. But when I do, I prefer to use undetectable poison..."

Hmm...sounds like we might have a new contest...? Anyone want to run with it?

Heh, I like the "most interesting man" commercial. It's very cute and bit inspiring. :) I might buy some Dos Equis.

There's a Dodge Grand Caravan commercial airing in Canada right now (not sure about other parts of the world) and much like that Dairy Queen commercial earlier in the thread, I can't figure out what the point of showing what the people in it are doing, when it seems like they're drinking something sour and making sour faces throughout the whole commercial. I wonder if those commercials are from the same marketing firm.

I just saw a Snuggie commercial in which they have a jingle to the tune of the "Macarana". "I.... Love a Snuggie". It seems to me like they're trying to make people not buy them. I assume tons of people do buy them though. I'm completely puzzled by the whole thing.

Played on GSN here constantly. Nothing like trying to quit smoking by having a bunch of socialites talk down to you.

I always get a chuckle out of "This is a free country right?" and "This is real my friends."

Commercials that fail:

If no one has mentioned them: The older Mentos commercials....

Sooo cheesy.
