Coming next from IDW comics?

More Alien Spotlight: I understand why they have focused on the more popular aliens, but I think it would be interesting to see them do stories on some of the aliens we've seen less often like the Tholians, or the Breen (were they created only for DS9?).
Titan: I think it would be alot of fun to get a version of this series that has images with it, so we can see some of these more unusual characters.
Excelsior, Vanguard, TNG Relaunch, DS9 Relaunch: I don't have a reason to want to see these as comic specifically, but I would love to see more stories from these series and I think comics would be a cool way to do it.
Corps of Engineers: Ever since I read the first few books I've felt that this series would work really well as a comic book series.
DS9/Voy/Ent: I understand that IDW got what they could at the time, but if possible I would really like to see them expand into the other series. Especially Enterprise since it's never gotten a comic series (yet?)
CLB: His books always have alot of really cool imagery in them, so I think it would be cool to actually get some images to go with his stories.
KRAD, David Mack, Wardimore: I really like them as writers, and would love to see them do more comics. I forgot to mark Martin & Mangels, but the same does go for them too.

The rules here don't seem to be super-rigid-- The Space Between contain a couple ENT references, and Intelligence Gathering featured the Rigellians off ENT. I'd assume there's some sort of logic I'm just not privy to.

It's not references that are off-limits, just stories based directly on characters or situations from the unlicensed series. For instance, IDW could do a TNG comic where Riker reminisces about his last visit to Quark's Bar and there's a panel or two illustrating the flashback; but they couldn't do a story that was about Quark and the goings-on at his bar.

As for the Rigellians, that's a species name that goes back to TOS; only their physical appearance in the comic comes from ENT. Also, Rigel is a real star, so "Rigellian" is kind of a generic name anyway.

No, they were mentioned in passing in "Hero Worship" and Generations and maybe one other TNG episode. But they were just a name until DS9 developed them. So that might be a borderline case.

It's really CBS/Paramount's discretion. IDW could conceivably do spotlights on the Ferengi, Cardassians, etc., because those races appeared first in TNG; but (unless CBS/Paramount was particularly generous about it) the stories would need to be limited to their TNG elements, and not incorporate material from DS9.

For example, Janeway was able to make an appearance in the Borg spotlight that I wrote specifically because CBS/Paramount felt that she was used in the same way, and in the same time-frame, as her appearance in the TNG film. The Doctor makes a cameo in Last Generation pretty much the same way.

This is still way freer than your ordinary licensing restrictions, though. Dark Horse doesn't have a license to publish ENT comics any more than IDW does, but they couldn't publish a comic book featuring a species from Rigel that looked exactly like the ENT Rigellians. IDW certainly wasn't limited to the TNG material here.

The Andorians were seen sparingly in TOS and TNG, yet their Alien Spotlight heavily used elements of their culture/appearance as depicted in ENT. This would seem roughly analogous.

Either whoever approves these things is being very accommodating, or just not spotting them! (Which wouldn't be unprecedented. Marvel's first ST license only allowed them to use characters and concepts from ST:TMP, yet that series featured cameos by Kyle, Lt. DeSalle and Admiral Fitzpatrick - probably unrecognized as minor faces from TOS by the person in charge of approvals.)
As for DS9 and other sub-franchises, it's just a matter of demand. When IDW got a lot of letters requesting "New Frontier", they acquired the rights to "New Frontier". They just need proof that it's going to be worth the investment. (Don't count on ENT, though; they've stated that that's partly an issue of likeness permissions, i. e. "a certain cast member" - which can only mean Scott Bakula, as none of the others have ever had their likenesses appear in comics - is so demanding about his likeness being EXACTLY how he wants it that the continual art revisions would be impossible to deal with.)

Just to nitpick, Naraht has appeared in comics before, in Diane Duane's classic, hilarious "Double Blind" 2-parter from DC's first TOS series. Except they redesigned the Horta to give him sort of a face; he became more of a high rocky dome with rectangular, yellow eyes.

How small are their roles? Just cameos? Like I said before, I think the license allows minor roles for characters from other series, just so long as the story isn't about them.

Actually the likeness of Dr. Phlox does appear in one panel of Blood Will Tell. Although I suppose one could make a case that it isn't uniquely recognizable as John Billingsley, since it's a profile shot and David Messina's art style is rather stylized.

And when you say Bakula is someone whose likeness has appeared in comics, are you referring to Innovation's fully painted Quantum Leap comics from the '80s?

Of course, not all actors have a blanket likeness approval. It depends on contracts that were signed at the start of each series. For example, Stewart and Burton were the only two with specified action figure likeness approvals for TNG. (Burton nixed a particular action figure because they were using the wrong head sculpt. Stewart refused to sign-off on a figural Toby Jug.) Nimoy has specified approvals re which pics can be used in trading cards, dating back to his TMP contract. (He withheld photo approvals on the proposed ST coffee table book, and a trading card in his Playmates TMP action figure.) Etc. Sounds like Bakula's contract for ENT gave him the power to not approve ST comic artwork.

All that looks correct to me, though there was also a one-shot called "Focus on Star Trek" that included interviews, etc., along with an original five-page comics story that prequeled the upcoming Year Four series.

There's also a Klingons alien spotlight (KRAD and JK Woodward), though it's not out yet; as well as an upcoming movie adaptation of Wrath of Khan (by Andy Schmidt + I forget the artist); as well as a Spock book entitled "Reflections" set in the new movie era (Tiptons & Messina, if I'm not mistaken).

Byrne has also said he's working on a variety of Trek projects--another Romulans miniseries (2 or 3 parts); a Gary 7 sequel; and possibly a Crew 2 series. Not sure how many of those are approved but unscheduled, or are just pitches waiting in the wings.

As cool of idea as that is, Manny Coto is working on 24 right now as a writer/exec producer, so I don't think he'd have much time to do it. I have no idea what the Reeves-Stevenses are up to though.
