Coming Aboard

^ Thank you for explaining to me that Voyager isn't real life.

Why bother to ever explore the motivations of a character if you are just going to say "the writers did it?" Well no shit. Of course they did.

You were placing the blame of Neelix being annoying on the presence of Kes....which doesn't make any sense. Therefore I corrected you.
Whether Kes had left or not, the writers still would have changed their writing for Neelix and as I said already, they had already started to when she was on the show.

I agree that Neelix became less annoying after Kes left, though I don't know if there was any causal relationship there. Both Neelix and Kes were extremely annoying, and once Kes left the show, then half of that annoyingness left the show, so it's hard to judge.

I think that Neelix started getting a little less annoying before Kes was completely gone, once their romance plotline failed miserably and the writers dropped it like a hot leola root.

Your argument is flawed. The presence od Kes means that the writers can write interactions between the two characters. When Kes left the show, that interaction was no longer possible.

I do however, agree that they had already started to change Neelix before Kes left. Not that it helped all that much. He was still pretty annoying in Season 7.

I initially found Neelix utterly unpalatable. He does grow on you, though. And I almost like hating him as much as I like liking him. He eventually feels like your wierd uncle who shows up to Thanksgiving and tells surreal stories you doubt but THOSE WERE THE 70s and Thanksgiving wouldn't be the same w/o him. I miss the idea of him being close enough for the crew to interact regularly with him. Like when your parents go to Fla for the whole flpping winter. You don't see them any less than you would if they were at their other house but you miss the idea that if you WANTED to climb in your car and go see them you COULD.

'Annoying Kes', eh? IYO. And Neelix. IYO. Just a little reminder that not everyone shares the sentiment. IMO.

The writers limited themselves too much in the beginning. Neelix and Kes were a "couple", but it was too much like a lolita relationship from the get go for my comfort level. Since she was a cutie and he wasn't, the writers naturally made him insecure and jealous of everyone around him. A poor choice on their part, but there it is. Take away Kes, you take away his jealousy. I think it would have been better to allow the Kes/Neelix relationship to mature/progress and have her character age/die as expected. (Like we saw in Before/After) I think TPTB dropped the ball on both characters when Kes was on board. ("Lolita" aside, I still like the Elogium scene where she's eating the flowers and he's carrying her to sickbay.)

Silly Rabbit, did you think that I was expressing a scientific result from a perfectly calibrated annoyamometer?

Of course they are my opinions, We're on a message board to discuss a fictional TV program. I promise, you can feel free to disagree all you want, and I won't take offense.
