Comic-con 2008

This year's comic con has to be when we get to see the look of the film properly.
Comic-con has a habit of showing stuff a year before any release,so who is going?:techman:

I plan on going to Comic Con solely to see the Star Trek presentation, but I fear with the release date push, there won't be anything of significance shown.

A little OT, but I've been going to CC since 96, when it was way more fun and you could seen the exclusive behind the scenes reels of upcoming hollywood blockbusters in the dealer's room, instead of waiting all night in line with 30,000 other crazies to grab 1 of 6,500 seats in hall H. Last year was absolutely insane. Being stuck in a convention hall with over 100,000 smelly and rude fan boys has really lost its appeal.

Back in the day, most of the folks you could meet were nice and just happy to be there. Hell, I got to chat with ILM animators who so wanted to talk about Phantom Menance in 98 but couldn't. The next year, I met a Simpsons' animation director and got to see storyboards for that year's treehouse of terror (that fella did the best grandpa simpson impersonation I've ever heard.) And neither of these were at panels or signings, these folks were there simply attending because they were fans too. You don't see that now, because the con is so overrun by fandom, speculators and hollywood wannabes.

Basically, this will be my last con and I really hope JJ doesn't hold back and tell us "wait till may next year."

Well at least if he doesn't reveal anything the fans won't get too ugly..

I’ve never seen people burning cop cars out in front of ComiCon. “What!? They delayed Star Trek? BURN, SAN DIEGO!!!

Weird, I just saw this photo somewhere, earlier today (possibly one of a gallery of photos?) but it completely escapes me in connection with what.

I've been going since 1974 and it was even more up close and personal then. You could literally walk up to 'em in the halls or dealer's room or hang with 'em by the pool. Of course this was when the biggest celeb was someone actually connected with comics or cartoons. In '76, I actually had dinner with Kirk Alyn, the first live-action Superman and we were talking about the then current problem of how to cast the first movie (at a time when the likes of Redford and decathelete Bruce Jenner were still being bandied about). ST movies/new TV shows were still a pipe dream and that guy that directed American Graffitti had just announced doing a sci-fi flick.

Ahhh, nostalgia...

wow,I thought I was a vet!I have been going since 2002,that was the point where it went mega hollywood,I stay right around the corner so when it gets too much I retreat to my hotel room,ur right guys it's become too busy, since 2002 I think it's doubled.
Still,it's the best place on earth to be other than hugh hefner's bedroom, hotel prices this year are waaayy 2 much!
Sam cogley(alan shore of forums) contact me at grandhyatt@live.co.uk,thats my e-mail address and we can meet up,but the lap dancers have to be hot,I got a feeling abrahms and cast will be there, paramount ruled last year with their presentation,I will be staying at grand manchester hyatt with my girlfriend.

I will be there. And I will be looking really sexy, as usual.

By which he means "I'll be so wasted that whatever you tell me happened, I'll have to believe."

The movie opens in May of 2009 - "Iron Man" opened in May of 2008 and the studio had quite a roll-out for it at the 2007 Comic-Con; that's where a lot of the buzz for the film really took hold. So, whatever Abrams may think is best, the studio's marketing people are likely to want to try what's already worked.

Sam,where u staying?iIm at manchester grand hyatt, then I got to move thurs to the marriott by the stadium, two things not to miss, trek XI and Watchmen presentations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:techman:

Your right, some unwrapping has got to be done, alot of main stream public, for example my sister does not know there is a new movie on the way even though there has been a teaser trailer,paramount-Time to kick the tires, light the fires!!

So, when and where is ComicCon 2008? I heard that there were some great previews for The Dark Knight and The Incredible Hulk at recent ComicCons in LA and then in NY. Anyone here about them?

What will be revealed at Comic-con? Not much. Abrams will make vague promises about the movie being "Big" and "Epic." Some of the writers will throw in some meaningless double-talk about the movie not necessarily being a prequel while not necessarily being a reboot and possibly being a combination of the two and also nothing even resembling the two. In the end we could get an actual cast photo and maybe a new trailer.

Dude, I respectfully disagree. Judging by the roll-outs last year, there is most likely going to be a big panel discussion with members of the cast, Abrams, Orci, etc. They will probably unveil a real trailer there as well. That is what Warner's did with a lot of their 2007-2008 titles last year; I'm guessing Paramount will do the same.

I'm going to reluctantly go along with this one, if Abrams is driving the car. I've been to Abrams panels before. He's all excitement, no delivery. (Until the final product comes out, that is.)

I'm hoping that Paramount puts something together and makes him show it. That's our only hope.

I've never been to one of these Comic Conventions. When is it supposed to be, exactly?

The San Diego Comic-Con International is July 24rd - 27th (I may have those actual dates wrong; it's the Thurs.- Sun. around that time) and it is the largest gathering of comic and pop culture fans IN THE WOOOOOORRRRRLLLLLDDDD!!!!! I believe that is not just hyperbole; last year they had about a hundred and fifty thousand guests over the four days. I defy anyone to name a larger peaceful gathering of this kind.

I DEFY YOU!!!!

...end of the semester...
