Colour Terms

In the 1970s, the Ford Maverick had punning color names like Anti-Establish Mint, Hulla Blue, Original Cinnamon, Freudian Gilt, and Thanks Vermillion. Not at all descriptive, just terribly twee.

Circumstances and situation. If I'm talking to a child, it's red. If I'm shopping for a tube of artist's paint, it's cadmium hue. In the clothing store it's ... (shudder) it may be cayenne. And while some snigger at the names of colors that come and go with the seasons, if you're shopping for clothes, it really is good to know that what you like is powder or sky, and not sea foam or turquoise. In general conversation, I wing it.

My goal in life is to have "iguana" established as a colour.

"Oh my, dearest, what a lovely garment you are wearing today! Pray tell me, what colour is it?"
"Quite a a nice shade of iguana, honey. It looks good on
everyone."
