Flux Capacitor and J. Allen are debating colours in another thread. This made me wonder if people of the T-BBS generally assign values like masculine and feminine to colours!

Well, do you?

In case a colour you think as highly gender-specific isn't mentioned in the poll, do feel free to mention it in your post.

^And I like shades of gray very much -but does that make either of these more or less feminine or masculine?

Sure some colours tend to be associated more with one gender than the other. i.e pink be associated with girls and blue boys esp. when they are young.

But as people get older the lines blur and colour association between gender narrows.

If we are talking as in clothes colours, some people suit certain colours more than others. For example a guy could look good in yellow, but a female not or vice versa.

I for one am glad that males of the heterosexual persuasion have successfully reconquered pink.

Pink is for everybody!!

Pink is a happy colour, what's not to love?

Every few decades pink is overdone... the eighties had neon pink everywhere and in the naughts every little girl would be dressed in pink all the time (not just for fancy but every day) -I'm wondering if that might have been due to some influence from the Disney Corporation...

We've had whole years where everything in this damn country is orange. Give me pink any day. If you're going to overdue it seems designed to be overdone.

I see most colors as neutral, save pinks and light purples which seem feminine to me.

Pink still gives me the same uncomfortable/humiliated feeling I had as a child whenever I got stuck wearing it.

I personally wouldn't wear pink, but then again it's one of those colours that doesn't suit me. Light colours on clothes don't suit me.

I love pink, mainly the softer, lighter variants (e.g., not Pepto Bismol pink). I don't assign any gender to color. Colors are for everyone.

in my humble opinion it always depends on the wearer whether a colour looks feminine or masculine.
It might possibly also depend on your personal condition that day. Some of you may have noticed that the same outfit doesn't suit them equally well every day. My auntie used to stand in front of her wardobe murmuring "now.... what might suit me today?" I think she had a point.

Ona slightly related topics how colourful our our waredrobes? If I were to look at mine, I suspect it would be filled with Blacks, Whites, Reds and Blues.

I am dressed in the most popular colour of my city for the most part. Black. I do wear stuff that might be called silver though as well, and of course burgundy. But black ties it all together.

In our culture, pink and lavenders tend to be feminine, but other than that, I don't associate colors and gender.

The weirdest thing about all this color nonsense is that our feminine/masculine weren't even established until the 1940's, and are primarily due to department store marketing in the 20s and 30s.

I whole heartedly agree with you here ;)

The question of colour and gender reminds me of this advert from over a year ago by Joop:

As for wearing pink. I have two pink shirts, one short sleeved and one long sleeved, a pair of pink and white swimming trunks and while drunk many years ago, I bought a pink sparkly cowboy hat. Unfortunately, this last item went missing while moving house.
