Colorful LHC

Is this life mimicking art or art mimicking life?

I can't help but thing of TOS style bridge, colors, design when I look at the LHC. (the most complicated, advanced piece of technology in our era)

Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland.

I've seen the Tevatron, up the road here at Fermilab. It's colorful like that, too. All the color-coded electronics, I guess.

Yeah, due its advanced electronics and project nature, it would need to have vital systems/conduits/access areas etc to be brightly coloured in a grey room.

^
^^Yeah -- but can their black holes send spaceships back in time? Hmmm?
:guffaw:

The only bright spot about CERN stealing Fermilab's thunder is that the black hole will start there now.

At least it gives the people in Illinois a few extra thousand miles of survival when it all gose tits up and creates an alternate reality of our own.

I'd call it coincidence due to color-coding. I also have to point out that this really doesn't have a great deal to do with the movie and would probably be a better fit in another forum.

Yeah it does, CERN are responsible for creating our realities alternate mirror universe reality when if fires up again.

Spoil sport. :p

All we need is an iconic shot of Scotty crawling through the Jeffries tube... I mean the LHC...

They should have filmed there. It looks a hell of a lot more like engineering than the brewery. No wonder Scotty had a drinking problem.

Well sure creating a giant black hole on the surface of the Earth could potentially suck. But there's just something so romantic about life imitating art. That will be my one last happy thought, and I'm sticking with it.

Potentially? It would definitely suck. And just keep right on sucking.

But at least the LHC doesn't need some made-up MacGuffin called "red matter" to do what it does.

This would have made for such a better engineering set. Sure it'd be a little bit more practical, but at least you can put a warp core in there.
