College student seeks personal assistant for $10-$12 per hour...

Whats the big deal. Plenty of people (and not those who are just wealthy) pay for various services that one could mange themselves. From nannies, to house keepers, to drivers, to deliver personal.

Hell I had a house keeper for one of the years I was in college (student housing, not the dorms).

And hell out of my years in college ho wmany people did I see use other people to do their chores for them. From saving laundry for parents to do (not to mention shopping and cleaning) to getting significant others to do so.

Hell how many people pay for a tutor, when what tehy just need is better study skills?

How many of you have ever eaten at a restaurant...? Ordered food in...? Dropped your clothes off at the dry-cleaner...? Had a professional clean your home...?

Or let's look at it from another direction:

How many college students have their parents do their laundry? Or have had a friend or family member help them clean their room or pick them up from work...?

Besides, I think most of the ire that his ad is stirring up is actually thinly veiled jealousy.
I doubt that, if anything people are mocking him because we were all able to go to college while holding down a job or two without the need to pay someone bad money to be their "mother" and writing up a bad ad for it.

Yup, jealousy...

Um, that's not "jealousy" if anything, that would be contempt. Because the next rational leap would be that if he's paying someone to do these mundane tasks, then he may very well be cheating on his coursework.

Is it the jealous mind that automatically projects inferred jealousy unto others?

I accept it, if I could I would. More power to the guy.

Ok, so we've established that you yourself are jealous and projecting.

People who attack, mock, and judge him are just covering for their own jealousy that he can do something that they can't or wouldn't because they fear the mocking and judging of others who are jealous.

That's really bad crackerjack psychology right there. I have a hard time believing you got that from anywhere other than a fortune cookie.

Mocking and judging others can come from myriad of internal feelings and such. Jealousy just being one tiny one of them. But you're sticking with that instead of considering the others, combined with you admitting that you are jealous of this guy yourself, your projection is more than clear and now you're just trying to paint everyone else with the same brush you painted yourself with.

For shame, really.

List them, and they would all leak back into the fact that you are jealous and that you're jealousy manifests itself in the form of contempt, anger, and resentment. However, the root cause for all of those responses still falls back on the initial jealously component.

I suspect it's more an expression of how frustrating it is to argue with someone who does nothing but restate the same flawed position over and over. At some point, you just have to give up.

:guffaw: Good one. :guffaw:

Me, I don't see any jealousy here. Most of those who are calling this student on the fact that he's behaving like a lazy, stuck-up jackass are quite capable of doing the work themselves anyway, so what's there to be jealous of?

I mean, come on....laundry? College dorms have laundry rooms. And even for those that don't? Go find the nearest coin-op. It's not rocket science here.

So, if you had the money and someone willing to do it, you wouldn't?

Ah... no. I'd stop being such a lazy, pampered moron and do the work myself.

There's much more worthwhile things to spend money on. I went to college in St. Louis, so I'd have gotten season tickets to the Cardinals. :)

(I was never a huge Cardinals fan but hey, if there's a ballpark in my city, might as well go...don't really care which team it is. :D If I had been as into baseball back then, as I am now, I definitely would have! )

You could have probably done that too if you were like this kid. ;)

I won't knock people who would choose not to even if they could, it doesn't make them any better or worse than those who could and would. It's a simple choice is all.

Hmmm all I know is I was able to balance class, my ROTC commitment, my National Guard commitment and was still able to graduate in 4 years. Yeah, if I could do it without an assistant I don't see why he cant

That isn't the point. If he can have one, and he wants one, why shouldn't he? That is the point.

That depends, is your only moral compass the free market? Relentless pursuit of wealth and luxury aren't the only goals in life.

My moral compass is software, not hardware.

Nobody is saying he can't. We're just making fun of him for doing it. I mean, come on. Too lazy to do his own laundry? Good lord.

Other people would think you were throwing away your money just as you believe he is wasting his. An as noted by another poster, he probably could afford both anyway.

I should probably note that I have a bit of a bias as I grew up completely spoiled in some of these same ways. Before I went to college, I had never done my own laundry, dishes, cleaned a bathroom ... I didn't even make my own bed. I choose to do these tasks now, but it's a choice. People spend their money in different ways.
