So, I guess it's a good thing that they expected troopers in need of reconditioning to continue to obey orders on their own, like report for reconditioning?!? 
Well, Finn had a perfect record prior to that point. It was probably thought that he was just squeamish about killing and would still follow orders about attending reconditioning without incident, since that's what soldiers with perfect records do.
No, but if tie-in material is needed to settle issues raised by a film's lack of clarity, then that's, you know, a strike against the film.
But I'm glad you brought that up, because the sketchiness of TFA on a lot of points was indicative of the impending arrival of tie-in material to fill in the blanks. I honestly don't expect any of the gaps I saw in TFA, some of the others of which I also mentioned upthread, to be filled in in later films. But tie-in books and comics....sure! That's pure gravy for Disney, as they can just license them out, and good for the other artists too. But, not such a good reflection on the film. Not that it matters, because it would have to have been a much bigger fuck up not to be a huge hit. But that's on the OT most of all. TFA wouldn't even exist without the OT, so to say it could somehow stand on its own without it, and speculate that it would be as well received as the original or make as much sense as the original, if it were somehow the first in the series, is all patently absurd. The original had to work much harder to get on the map. It didn't have a leg up. That's really how all of this discussion began.
It's why I'm hoping that Abrams doesn't bring his trademark sketchiness to Episode IX. Perhaps he'll do a more polished job this time around, since there's now a tremendous amount of advance notice and he's not part of a team called in at a relatively later date to put out a screenplay after the work of the first team has been scrapped.

We already know that JJ Abrams will write Episode IX so...
So far as I'm aware no script for Episode IX exists as of yet, so I think it's safe to say there's no danger of JJA rewriting it.

Of course JJ's script will be a new script and not a rewrite (unfortunately). I'm surprised people thought otherwise. JJ did exactly the same with George freaking Lucas' script/draft/treatment for Episode VII.
So maybe not a perfect record, but certainly a clean record?
Since we've seen neither, "unfortunate" is a rather harsh word.
