Colin Salmon (Doctor Moon) possibly cast as new Doctor?

Yeah, I know the source is The Sun, but they tend to get more things correct then wrong. People just hate the paper for what it represents so give it a lot of flack. :p

Also heard the story on Smooth FM this morning, though they said that the BBC have confirmed this?

Not my first choice (far from it), but if true I could see it working.

its possible, but again why are there no names being mentioned of actors who have not appeared in Doctor Who already?

the BBC wont say anything about this, not until they are ready to announce it officially, and that problay wont be for another 6 months

I just hope we don't get a black Doctor. It would be jumping on the band wagon.

Maybe in the future, but doing it now would just be too gimmicky.

What "band wagon" would that be? The "hiring the best actor for the job regardless of their colour" band wagon?
no the Obama bandwagon.

but seriously now, ive mentioned this before, there does seem to be a movement towards a black Doctor this time around, the question is, is the BBC part of that movement?

I can think of far better actors then Colin Salmon.

You know exactly what band wagon I mean. I read a Daniel Craig interview yesterday and he said he thinks the next Bond should be black. Black Bond, Black Doctor Who....go for it sometime I say if someone suitable is found. At the moment though it just seems too gimmicky and 'fashionable'.

If a black man or women was cast it would not effect my enjoyment of the show one bit - it's just gonna be plain forced and stupid if over the next few years every single 'hero' white character is recast as a black man as it is currently the 'cool' thing to do.

Please don't go all politically correct on me. :p

If this were true the beeb would jump the gun and announce it officially. They did last time, and they did when Eccleston left.

Personally I don't care if it's a if they've been on the show before, if they're a black actor, white actor, woman or man, so long as they're good.

Oh piss off you racist bastard.

I see what you're trying to say. It would all seem "Me too" bandwagon-y but I still couldn't give a shit so long as they're good in the role.

This isn't really anything new or gimmicky. Before Daniel Craig was cast Brosnan was championing Colin Salmon as Bond (and I'd have loved to see that)

I have no truck with hiring someone just for the colour of their skin, but I'd love it if either Colin Salmon or Patterson Joseph were cast because I think both of them would be great Doctors.

No, they don't. It's just that people remember what they get right and not what they get wrong. (I'm sure this is at least the third eleventh Doctor they've announced in the past few years.) They'll report anything that they hear anywhere- from real sources or from people taking the piss on Internet forums. Then inevitably some of it's right and people use that to claim every piece of random gossip they come up with ought to be taken seriously. No thanks.

I think the trick is to throw so much shit out there that something has to be right, then people remember that you got stuff right.

Maybe, but remember The Sun is a multi million pound news/entertainment powerhouse. It will have *some* reliable Doctor Who sources, I'm sure.

The Sun is also one of the most popular newspapers in the country. We should be glad that it supports and actually has Doctor Who related news. It's doing the show a big favour publicity wise. Free advertisement and promotion of the show to the general public (even if it is the lowest common denominator of the public :D )

I agree that the paper is a pile of shite though. :p

No doubt they will have some reliable sources, along with some semi-reliable sources, some full of shit sources, and some stuff they just make up on the spot and put out to sell papers, I mean unnamed insiders...

Actually, no. Saying that a paper "tends to get more things correct than wrong" is like saying that a surgeon "tends to save more patients than he kills": it's a terrible track record. You're free to believe this or not, but most of us journalists only print stories that we genuinely believe are accurate.

That being said, if the BBC really is looking for a black Doctor, it's a little ridiculous, isn't it? It's actually the opposite of the Obama effect: hiring a guy because of what he looks like rather than his merits. I'd love to see Paterson Joseph play the Doctor, but I really really can't see Colin Salmon in the role.

I could see both of them making great Doctors, that said whilst Patterson Jospeh would be near the top of my list, Salmon would be a bit further down. There are better choises than him, but he could do it.

Colin Salmon was touted as a good Bond replacement by Pierce Brosnan a few years ago when he was playing that other MI06 Agent in Tomorrow Never Dies and The World Is Not Enough. Salmon is wooden in my opinion, so I feel his range is limited. Also, Steven Moffat is casting the Doctor, and I don't see him casting Patterson Joseph or Colin Salmon.

I see Steven Moffat casting someone like Richard Coyle honestly. Frizzy haired Welshman or Scotsman who is socially awkward, comical but with great inner strength and acting ability. Moffat tends to Mary Sue himself into his stories, but he's such a good writer and is so self-aware that it makes for compelling writing. That bloke with Sally Sparrow in Blink was the archetypal Moffat Man, and the Doctor has gotten gaga over women in Girl in the Fireplace and Silence in the Library/River's Run.

Mind you I don't see Richard Coyle being cast. He did burn Moffat twice by leaving Coupling and refusing to reprise the role for a cameo for fear of being typecasted.
