Colin Firth Wants to Be Who Villain

Pffft... who cares? So long as Firth is involved, I'm for it. :D

But I have to confess that having Firth portray a villain would be intriguing.

Because that's the dream of every British actor...to follow up an Oscar win with a guest appearance on Doctor Who or Torchwood.

Maybe he should just settle for The Sarah Jane Adventures...

I don't understand the sarcasm odo ital. Why wouldn't Firth be interested in a future part in two popular British series? He can do stuff for fun you know.

^

The sarcasm is 'cause ya are usin' the Sun as a source for the story. It is like pointin' to the National Enquirer, ya know.

Apparently Colin Firth wants to play a villain in Doctor Who or Torchwood. Not sure if the Sun is considered one of the UK's notorious tabloid papers or not but it would be awesome if he did play one.

The Sun is the mother of all tabloids imo. But it would still be awesome, because Firth is awesome! (I love the word "awesome", in case anyone hasn't noticed :p )

Hey, did you know that Brangelina sued the National Enquirer? Boy, I can't believe they actually took that "newspaper" seriously.

^ And Snow is cold...not quite sure what that has to do with anything!

And it's been reported in a few places, apparently it came from a "Twitter Interview" so it'd be fairly easy to find out if it was true or not...

and you apparently don't understand what Doctor Who is in Britain! It's one of the more recognisable things! While you might scoff and say "oh, you'd never get a guy who's just won an oscar wanting to be in Doctor Who" two things:

1) he said this before he won the oscar :P

2) why not? Doctor Who is a cult thing in America, it's far more mainstream in Britain!

Was the interview done with a verified Colin Firth account, though?

I have a pretty good idea, since everyone says I don't understand how awesome it is because I'm not there to see it first hand any time I say something sarcastic about it.

I'm a fan of the show, and I've tried to get others into it, so don't get me wrong - I like the show.

But its news now because he has an Oscar! As Anne Hathaway was sayin' durin' the awards show the other night, he is now "Oscar Winner Colin Firth."

Up next, his knighthood!

A lot of Hollywood types will be watchin' to see what he chooses for his next role, and if its a genre thing, he could be the new Halle Berry, who followed up her Oscar win with Catwoman, and now the only time she gets to be on the Oscar stage is if a prominent black woman entertainer dies durin' the year.

If Colin Firth follows up an Oscar win with an appearance on Doctor Who, the next time ya see him on the Kodak Theater stage is to deliver a brief eulogy after Patrick Stewart & Ian McKellan shuffle off the mortal coil!

2) why not? Doctor Who is a cult thing in America, it's far more mainstream in Britain!

Well, duh! It's British! And as long as the DVDs are expensive as hell here, it'll always be a cult thing. No one wants to spend eighty bucks on a thirteen episode season of a series they haven't watched before.

But I will say that BBC America showin' the Christmas special without a delay may have helped, and if they cut the delay between airings there & here, it'll spread. Puttin' Torchwood on Starz could have an impact, too, though I, personally, haven't had Starz as part of a cable package since high school.

Anyway, its a link to an article that was in the Sun, and though I'm a Texan, I can wrap my brain around how bad a tabloud is to use for a source. I'll believe it when its on the BBC website, or at least part of the season preview, like Bill Nighy was!

Firth doesn't have a Twitter account.

That said, it is legit. Honestly, if you do a search on "Colin Firth Doctor Who" you'll find links from January, when the interview happened. For instance, while they don't link to the exact Tweet, BBC America's website ran an article on the interview six weeks ago.

And that just brings it back to the him bein' an Oscar winner now part of my argument.

:techman:

Okay. Thanks for the explanation. I thought Sun was one of the tabloids but couldn't remember, it's hard to tell, there's so many of them it seems over there.

only 6. The Sun, the Mirror, Daily Star, Daily Sport (which barely qualifies as a nespaper), Daily Mail and Daily Express.

the Independent, Guardian, Daily Telegraph and Times are all broadsheets, even if the DT's the only that's physically printed in that format anymore.

Probably the Star, the sun and mirror are roughly comparable, only the Sun's right wing, the Mirror's left wing. The sun's probably the slickest.

I'm not sure I'd qualify the Express and the Mail quite as tabloids, they sort of sit between the sun/mirror style of paper and the Times/Independant type of paper.
