Coffee Anyone?

Can't stand the flavor of coffee. Never have. Even the fru-fru kind with extra crap in it.

If I need any kind of boost, it's diet Coke. But I usually drink caffeine-free diet Coke (or "old folk Coke" as I have deemed it).

If I'm really excited about what I'm writing, adrenalin usually keeps me going.

Not so much intensive exercise as just getting out and going for a walk. Not only does it get the blood flowing, but the change of scenery helps stimulate the mind.

I tend to pace when I write, which might operate on a similar principle... pacing, usually accompanied by hand gestures and muttering as I act out scenes to myself (were he watching, James Steward would surely think me mad). Never outside though; too damn cold, for one thing; too public for me to embody my imaginary, for another.

As for coffee, I've never touched the stuff. Water's fine by me; at the extreme, sugary fruit juices. I'm more propelled by snacks than drink.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

Caffeine doesn't really help me on a deadline, but then again, my deadlines aren't like you book-writers' deadlines. I have lots more of them, but they are smaller deadlines (that is, less words are due!). So regular ol' home-made adrenalin usually does it for me. Taking a break helps too, sometimes, but as we all know, what really helps you on a deadline is just sitting there and forcing yourself to write.

I tend to do this as well - and indeed have to choreograph fight scenes this way, which I'm sure would look really freaky to anybody watching!

(This is partly because I'm used to martial arts, and to arranging demos for museums and stuff)

I tend to choreograph fight scenes similarly, jumping and rolling around insofar as my not-so-young-anymore joints and ligaments can handle, and otherwise relying on action figures. It's so cool to have a paying job that is sometimes indistinguishable from sheer goofing around.

ugh, hate coffee. i only drink a mug of tea with breakfast, as it's part of the morning ritual. i don't need drinks to stimulate my imagination. it usually needs reining in!

I can't stand coffee and when ever I go to a Starbucks or Costa I'll have a non coffee drink.

Although I don't do that much writing, when at university some of my best essays were written while highly drunk late at night listening to some Queen.

Hot Chocolate and/or tea for me. The only coffee for me on those rare times I have it is from Starbucks and will be either French Vanilla or Cinnamon.

Ah yes. If had all the money I'd spent on coffee... I'd spend it on coffee.

Of course, being British, a cup of tea is always good, but strong coffee serves to jumpstart me on slow days.
Like Dayton, I too have a fondness for The Dew, but sadly they don't sell it on this side of the pond. I tend to mainline it whenever I visit the USA. There's a specialist international candy store in London that imports 12-packs and I sometimes treat myself to one, but the price works out something like $4 a can...

Of course, there's also these... http://peppermints.com/html/products.html
...as a caffeine alternative. All the rush and fresh breath too.

I can only wonder how different, how much more productive, my life might have been if Mountain Dew made in Canada had caffeine in it. All you can hope for here is the sugar rush.

What is Mountain Dew?

It's an energy drink/soda that's filled with lots of Caffeine and sugar and green.

So it's like Red Bull then; something I can not drink due to health reasons and the few times I've had that with Vodka I've lost time! :vulcan:

No, it's not like Red Bull. Mountain Dew is not an energy drink, it is a "soda" or "pop" or "soda-pop" (whatever your locale calls it) that has caffeine in it. 8.3oz of Red Bull has 80mg of caffeine 12oz of Mountain Dew has only 55. (Reference)

I use to tank up on coffee and write all night. Can't do that anymore, time and all that acid eating through my stomach caught up with me.
