Cobra Commander

Eh. It'll be a generic semi-sci-fi actioner with a familiar name. Not unlike other reboots with which we are all familiar.

I'm guessing he's a severe burn victim, that's what the helmet resembles. Like someone who skin can't be explosed or he'll suffer infection and die.

Do we know what the plot of the film is?
I'm wondering if his motives are in relation due to his appearance.

From what I've read, Cobra Commander was a special forces guy and buddy of Duke who got left for dead on a mission. He ends up working for Destro at MARS as a sort of mad doctor who has to wear some sort of life support suit. He uses his experiments to take over MARS and create Cobra.

Thanks.;)

that's not what i heard.

I heard he's a buddy of Duke's, but winds up being recruited to work for MARS and is given some sorta serum or something as a super-soldier, like all the MARS troopers, and becomes their leader. IIRC, the serum's called 'Cobra'.

It very well could be one and the same story.

Did IQs just dropped sharply while I was away? [/ripley]

Part of Cobra Commander's awesomeness was that he a) looked cool in his masks, not like Jason X and b) that he had no backstory. The stuff in the spoilers are straight out of Xbox game backstory 101. You had no idea what was going on underneath. One of the flaws of the 1986 G.I. Joe movie is revealing what he looked like.

He should be modernized but positively badass.

I believe they made a choice to stay away from a hood since it invokes images of the KKK, an understandable choice.

And as I've posted Cobra Commander has worn blue silver armor very similar to that toy before. I'm more shocked that it appears Destro will be wearing his mask since we don't see him in it in any of the images thus far released but the toy indicates that.

Except that it never evoked images of the KKK before and I don't think it would if they had a costume designer worth something on this film. Oh, wait, they do. She worked on both Starship Troopers, which evoked Nazis and Chronicles of Riddick, which evoked ridiculouslness.

Just like the Transformers movie is 99% CG robot transformation design, G.I. Joe is 99% production design. None of it has been exciting so far. I was hoping at least good ol' CC, who's iconic look is hard to screw up, would be alright.

Chronicles of Riddick did not evoke ridiculousness it was a well thought out and excellent...no sorry i cant do it. To bad Sargent Slaughter is so old these days, would have loved a cameo.

If you don't think that hood doesn't scream Klan I don't know what to say, it would likely have not translated that well to a large screen.

And I rather liked the look of Riddick. Starship Troopers seemed to me an intended farce, it was more the script that invoked NAZIS then the look.

Anyone who had a delusion this would be a literal translation of what is a rather silly primary source (both the comics and cartoon) haven't been paying attention to what sells and does not.

All I care is if its a fun movie or not.

He had one in the comic, revealed over a few spread out issues.

He was once-of all things-a used car salesman who decided to start his own secret organization to gain power and wealth for himself. That organization eventually turned into Cobra.

Only one minor part of the huge gaping flaw that was the Cobra-la storyline.

Being played by Joseph Gordon Levitt, I sincerely doubt there'll be any badassness in the performance.
