So he's not concerned about giving "What the Fans want" and wants to please the General public...Kudos to him..
I'm more interested in a GOOD movie...the last Trek film (The God Awful Nemesis) seemed to be about "Givin' the Fans What They Want" (IE More Data [not]funny moments and freakin slow space battles just like "That Movie you know..Wraith of Khan") and ended up pleasing NO One..damn near putting the nail in the coffin of Trek.. I SLEPT through that Turkey in the theater..


And no amount of near religious dogmatic diatribe from the fandamentalist crowd will keep me from forming my own opinion by seeing the movie..

frankly if someone tried to please 90 percent of trek fans they would wind up schizoid.

And I think Abrams is well aware of the futility of trying to do so, and is simply intending to make a good movie set in the Trek universe. In another year, we'll know whether or not he succeeded.

I think that's less a Paramount inconsistency than a simple difference in director/producer/production company. G.I. Joe's producers might want their promo stuff out there now; Abrams and crew don't. No big deal.

I think Abrams should base the new trek off of my fanfics, but the rude ass has been ignoring my E-mails! I'm going to have to start disguising my E-mails as Free Viagra Coupons...yes...that's just what I need to be taken seriously. Name recognition. People know Viagra right? Damn straight they do.

Off topic. Has anyone else noticed that Abrams looks like that guy in the Geico commercials making faces in his webcam? It's as if he trying to hard to be disarmingly nerdy. The only difference is that, due to his successes with Lost and Alias, he's probably forgotten about more tail he's gotten than we'll ever get in a few lifetimes.

To paraphrase something my parents always used to say to me: If every other producer/director in Hollywood decided to jump off a cliff, does that mean Abrams should do it, too? Just because the GI Joe gang has decided to dump images all over the Net doesn’t mean Paramount or Abrams is under any obligation or expectation to do the same with Star Trek.

One of the reasons I like Abrams is because he’s not afraid to be original and think outside the box, which are qualities that the Trek franchise in general has been sorely lacking for decades. If he wants to keep the film as much of a surprise as possible until the curtain actually rises, I have no problem with that.
