CNN article on Klingons

I don't understand why these guys don't know to apply some liquid latex at the seams of their appliances. Makeup 101.
It does look rather ridiculous when they don't even try to make their makeup look good.

The article was written by someone who has no clue about anything Trek. This paragraph almost gave me a coffee spew:

K---- P----- of Lawrenceville, Georgia, is one of many who likes to dress up as a Klingon and associate himself with a certain Klingon house. He knows a few phrases of the language and compares Klingons' popularity to the enthusiasm surrounding biker culture.
In all my years of Trekking, that is a phrase I have never heard...

I just do not understand why someone goes to all the effort to reproduce the costume so well (in most cases) yet neglect the makeup. I have seen a few good-to-average Klingon costumes, but because they took the time to apply the makeup effectively, the overall effect was impressive.

Actually, I kinda get that -- the whole warring gangs / code of honor thing.

Or maybe it's just the leather, ponytails and resistance to bathing.
