Cloverfiled's sucess = Trek XI sucess

RT has Cloverfiled at 71% certified fresh. Assuming the film is a big success, this really sets up Trek XI nicely.

Rememeber when Speilberg first started making box office gold in the early 80's? A "Speilberg" film was always a event. After Close Encounters, then E.T., one sucess built upon the next.

I belive Cloverfield is here to set up J.J. much in the same way. Same thing with M.Night. After 6th sense, evreyone waited anxiously for the next M.Night film.

Cloverfiled's sucess and connection with Bad robot/J.J. Abrams, may build anticipation for the next big J.J. project, and luckily for us that project is Trek.

What do you think?

Agreed. It gives him name recognition, respect with the consumers and cross over customers - people who may not like TREK necessarily but are JJ fans.

When the trailers are released I can imagine the voice over...

"The creator of Lost and Cloverfield takes on a bold new mission with a new crew to boldly go where no one has gone before..."

I got tingly reading that. :D

LOL ... your welcome

I really am excited about the movie, and I have full faith and confidence in J.J. Abrams to, if nothing else, make this movie a very interesting one.

We have a winner !

I'm sure that Colverfield will draw folks in and they'll get hit with the Trek teaser and the rest shall be history.

I'll find out tomarrow when I go see Colverfield myself.

The way this is developing really makes me belive Paramount is orchestrating a Trek comeback big time. Cloverfield was almost a second thought that was a gamble, but if it paid off it would contribute to Trek's success. Well it looks like the first part has paid off( at least from a critical perspective). We'll see what the Box office looks like Monday.

How does the fact that J.J. Abrams produced "Cloverfield" translate into "Star Trek" being a hit?

Remember when George Lucas directed "Star Wars" and then produced "Howard the Duck"?

No matter how "Cloverfield"is perceived it will be forgotten by the time Trek XI premiers. I like the advertising concept though... piggybacking the trailers with other Sci-Fi films. tptb should do more of this as the premier approaches. Trek fans will go regardless it's the non trek fans that have you have to appeal to.

I hope to have forgotten about it by tomorrow.

Hopefully this will be Abrams' "Howard the Duck".

Hahaha uhh he didn't even direct the thing.

Abrams Trek is going to bomb with or without success of Cloverfield.

Not a very utopian vista you have there.

Glad it keeps you warm at night to think this.
Look I don't get this hate for either change or Abrams - and guess what, if it irks off Trekkers... that should be a good gauge to tell you its going to play very good to "General Audiences" - the group that actually matters here.

The more I read a segment of fandom pronouncing this a failure the more sure I am it will be a resounding success.

It will be a success. And you know what? It never fails to amaze me how some people apparently want it to bomb. Why? If you don't like it, don't go see it. But why would you WANT it to fail?

Live and let live, I say.

And yes, it will be a box office hit. :)

Sorry to dissapoint you but the critics mostly love it. Remember I am Legend was the top movie a few weeks ago, and the critics bashed it, so odds are this will be a big hit for a few weeks as word of mouth builds.

And another thing, what Paramount is doing with Trek and Abrams is Marketing 101. You have a weak brand like Trek, and a rising Brand like Abrams. What to do...

I know make the Abrams brand even hotter with a blockbuster like Cloverfield and then tie him to the weak brand : Trek- result both brands rise, and you revive Trek in the process- all this equals $$$$ and thats what this all about.( which I have no objection to by the way)

Disappointed that critics mostly loved it? Hardly.

Judging from the looks on the faces of the folks leaving the theater, 70% didn't like it. The movie sucked, critics notwithstanding.
