Cloud Atlas

what makes you think it's NOT the same island.. it's exactly the same island..

The only way that it's not is if they do something similar to the Aurora house.. which is (filming location) the same house that Vyvyan Ayers lives at.. but the two might not actually be the same house in the story but one is Belgium and one is in Scotland guess.. that said.. the two places look somewhat different in the film thanks to set redecorating

The movie does that a lot.. you think that there is a patter in the stories that it would be come a hard set rule between ALL the stories.. but there is always one exception, done deliberately, to throw you off.. like the comet tattoo.. belongs to the protagonist in each story and could represent the reincarnated soul (if there is one).. but Cavendish and Rey are both alive at the same time and both have the tattoo.

The real reason for the tattoo (in the movie) is to just allow the filmmakers to show the audience who the character in each story has the most agency, and to give the viewer something to pay attention to in the initial 40 minutes of the film (follow the comet in each story) at least until there is enough going on in those stories where the plot and scenarios have enough going on underneath them.

(shrugs) The Wikipedia article on the film says that the past sequence occurs in the Chatham Islands while the future sequence is set in Hawaii.

You're welcome to take it up with them if you'd like. Personally I don't really care.

I appreciate your clarification and my apologies for coming off the way I did. I already presented the possibility that I was wrong because (in addition to the fact that Chatham Islands was not mentioned by name in the film) that the two houses (Aurora House and Ayer's mansion) were not the same house despite being filmed on the same set Cheers! In any case I enjoy talking to fans of the film

Oh, I could talk about "Cloud Atlas" for ages and listen to the music on infinite repeat for quite awhile. :)

I also have the book but regrettably haven't gotten to it yet.

I thought the house was intended to be the same house, but I guess I could be wrong about that. :p

Thank you for the apology, BTW. Much appreciated!

The internet has so much conflict that when I get on my soapbox I forget that sometimes I'm talking to someone new. I have the novel, but as someone who loves film I was more eager to get the screenplay WB submitted to the Academy, and it is a fascinating read. It's my favorite recent movie, my brother .. and I'm glad to meet you and talk about it

Personally I'd really love a complete soundtrack, though I suspect that's a pipe dream.

A copy of the screenplay would be pretty nifty though, especially if there was discussion regarding things they may have changed as it evolved.

As for the screenplay, the one I got that WB submitted to the academy (I got it on ebay) is more pared down and closer (almost identical to the movie) than the PDF file you will find if you do a do a google search for the script
