Were the closing credits cheesy or glorious?

The closing was enough to make me want to buy the soundtrack for sure just so I can hear it all again. Problem? NOBODY HAS IT IN STOCK AROUND HERE!!!

I don't like the idea of buying it on iTunes because then it's entirely digital and you can't burn it to disc to have a hard copy.

Probably will end up ordering it from Amazon.

HOW CAN NOBODY HAVE A COPY OF IT?!?!? It's not like Trek's popularity suddenly surged or anything, is it?

Are you in America? It's only $9.97, free shipping, no tax (depending on where you are) at Deep Discount.

Cheesy and awesome at the same time. And twenty times better than hearing another watered-down retread of the TMP theme.

I'd have to go with a little bit of both. On the one hand it's their theme, it's got to be there. On the other hand, outside of it's use at the end of The Search For Spock, It's just never worked for me; Not even really in this film.
I love the opening rift, it's probably the official anthem of all Trekdom. But that main part, whether it's done vocally or orchestrally , just can't shake it's swinging sixties origins. But like I said it was faithful and actually kinda cool.
Infact, I'd love to hear them use some of the other music from the series, as in my opinion, TOS had some of the most memorable incidental music in all of Star Trek. The other shows certainly had some very high points, but the bulk of it was admittedly ambient mood music that became so formulaic, you'd swear you were listening to one twenty year long track. Listen to anything from TOS, and you'll be humming for hours. Anyway, I say glorious cheese.

I stood up and walked out of the theatre enjoying the afterfeel of the great experience I had way too much to pay any attention to the credits, so I have no idea if I'd like them or not.

You mean you didn't stay to watch all of the credits? HERETIC! :p

I loved the use of the original theme in the closing credits. It was wonderful to hear those familiar notes, and the closing credits was exactly the right place to do it. Opening with them, or sloting them into the movie would have been too cheesy.

How can you not adore Spock/Nimoy reciting the famous Star Trek lines and the original theme closing the movie?

It was glorious and a perfect way to end the movie.

I voted "both" because I would have liked to hear a more organic composite of the old and new themes. The blend was pretty rough in my opinion.

Also the new main theme could have been worked on with a little more effort; although I like it, I have the impression that it could have been more unique. The new theme is justa bit too simple for me... I can't help it but I keep imagining the music of TUC for this movie (except for the Overture which wouldn't have fitted the beginning).

Didn't fit in my opinion.

I liked it, but it felt out of place. I'd have preferred a few more musical cues dotted throughout the picture.

I liked the counter-melody to the theme though.

:D

actually i think there are times were indeed you can hear notes of the tos theme but they fade out as if the time isnt right yet.

when old spock, jim meet scotty and when kirk and scotty beam on the ship.

There's another such microburst of it when the shuttle leaves Iowa for the academy. Very subtle, but it's there.

The only thing I would have done differently would have been to have one clean run-through of the entire theme bookending the credits instead of the truncated versions the composer used.

Nevertheless, I teared up when I heard it...much like I did when they previewed the reconstruction of the entire theme for TOS-R.

Glorious, loved every minute of it.

When we first hear the four note intro (the so called twinkles) when Kirk and Spock beam back after the battle, that was it, i couldnt wait until we heard the whole thing.

Courages theme on a massive orchestra was fabulous, absolutely fabulous.

Couple the theme with the amazing planet and star visuals that rival Superman Returns' opening credits.

Absolutely perfect way to close, I thought it was glorious.

My cinema was playing the old TMP theme while people were getting sat down, which I thought was a nice touch - usually they play modern pop junk. Obviously some geeks on staff :D

I don't know how to vote on that, but it sure made me grin. The end credits were just over the top in a good way.

Pure cheese. I am a big fan of the James Horner soundtracks and thats probably where my bias lies. I knew the end credit was coming, but I was hoping they would reboot it too.

Thats what i was expecting whil on the Isle of Wight visiting family.

We went into Cineworld in Newport to Goldsmiths 'The Enterprise' (The best starship porn music) and then followed by Horners 'End credits' from ST:III (also useing Courages TV theme) then the trailers started.

Usually in Cineworld you get fucking hip hop, or modern pop or shit like that. Maybe there were some true movie geeks in the projecction room.
