Clone Wars:Tarkin instead of Yularen?

Mr. Sin

Commander
Meaning, wouldn't it have made more sense?

Tarkin was unfortunately reduced to a cameo in the prequels, and to my knowledge has not appeared in Clone Wars. However I think David Filoni missed an oppurtunity by not having Tarkin be the Republic commander who works with Anakin and Obi-Wan. Instead, we get Yularen, who was in Star Wars in a non-speaking role.

Yeah, it would've required extensive EU rewriting but they had to do that for Yularen too (He was originally the intelligence commander on the Death Star, now he's a Grand Admiral because Filoni screwed up the uniform canon) as well as other things.

The reason I think Tarkin would've worked better is because it would've elaborated on their "friendship"/mutual respect (Something Vader later shares with Boba Fett, and that's another thing unexplained by the prequels/Clone Wars), and also explain how he knew about Obi-Wan Kenobi.

It would have been cooler, certainly. Now that I think about it it'd be a shame if Tarkin never shows up in this series or the next (in either case, Wayne Pygram to the stand, please.) I think they went with Yularen because he's more of a blank slate; whether or not you rewrite the EU it's pretty unquestionable that Tarkin is a bad person. Yularen could be anything.

Wait, what?

Yularen was always a Grand Admiral. It's the justification for his white uniform, which is why Thrawn has a similar uniform. This is about the only thing I remember knowing about the guy back in the late nineties.

It's also completely nonexistent, except I guess in the EU. Boba is just a guy he knows has a reputation for disintegrations. His brief conversations with the guy are stiff, formal, and mostly concerned about the economics of the situation.

Depends. According to Wookiepediea, Yularen was part of the ISB, which wear white uniforms and he held the rank of colonel.

I don't think Yularen needed to be Tarkin but I agree it would be ridiculous for him not to show up in the series.

Well clearly in the first season Yularen was supposed to be a nice guy and thus Tarkin wouldn't have worked. Then in the second season he inexplicably turned into a total dick and now he DOES seem like a good Tarkin :D

Dave Filoni comments in the commentary for the Clone Wars movie that he liked the idea of using Admiral Yularen because he does exist later on and that he has sort of followed Anakin Skywalker and pinned his career on Darth Vader's cape (paraphrasing his comment big time but I think you will get the point).

Who was Yularen again? I'm not familiar with him (a screencap would be nice). I'm primarily a film fan, and only casually into the EU.
