Clone Wars 1x04 "Destroy Malevolence"

And speaking of hyperdrive, since when did Star Wars hyperspace look so much like Stargate hyperspace, a tunnel with blue clouds of light swooshing by? Is that something that was established in any of the films?

If you watch Return of the Jedi closely, you cans ee the same effect for the ship's in hyperspace. also in ANH seconds before they reach Alderaan.
I missed the episode! I can't wait to see it.

In ANH You see it as a tunnel before the falcon roars past from the bottom of the screen. This is right before she comes out of hyperspace to the destroyed Aldreaan system. All the cockpit shots of hyperspace in ANH are only starstreaks as it leaps to and out of hyperspace. ROTJ does have a cockpit view of the the hyperspace tunnel though, right before the Rebel Fleet comes out of hyperspace at Endor.

Don't know how they feel about hot-linking so here is a page dedicated to Star Wars Hyperspace. If you click on "Tunnel Effects" there is a nice image from ANH.

The original tunnel always reminded me of the Doctor Who opening from the 70's.

Were Malevolence's non-ion guns all taken out or what...they never fired back.

I liked Grievous hanging up on Dooku.

F%*# you, old man!

Obi-Wan is my least favorite lead character at this point. His look is too wooden and his voice is too flat but I also disliked the previous Clone Wars voice for him. It's like they stripped all the emotion from Ewan McGregor's version except smugness.

It also reminded the producers of "The Family Guy."

Just saw "Destroy Malevolence." Great episode. The droid humor works for me now, but it'll get old fast if they don't either ditch it or change it.

Fantastic voice acting. Anakin and Padme had way more chemistry here than in Eps. II/III. And they made Padme frakkin' hot. :bolian:

Yeah, as already somewhat answered, the swirley hyperspace tunnel was used in ANH when the Falcon was approaching Alderaan. It had the Falcon coming from the bottom of the screen then going away from the camera. Kinda weird '70s-tech model manuevor thing going on there I guess.

It actually occurs at the layer change on the DVD. I know, as it's a bit fucked up layer change. On my old player, it nearly hung there. And on my new player that does nearly seemless layer changes, it hick-ups there a bit.

Now then, yeah, as many of you stated, the battle droid humor slapstick is wearing very thin at this point. They need to tone it down. Quick. I just hope more and more episodes focus on the clone troopers.

That said, I wonder if this series will ever make it to Kasshyyk. The wookie planet. And I wonder how they'll animate the wookies.

Also, I wonder if by the later episodes if they'll start using MkII clones (as seen in ROTS).

Hearing all of this positive feedback for the show online makes me wish I was watching it. Is there a place online where I can catch up?

Yes. They're called m*n*nova, is*hunt, the p*r*tebay and so on.

And maybe somebody this fucking backwards world will realize the power of instant downloads and realize they CAN make money off them.

I'm enjoying this show a lot more than I thought I would. I'm not too big on the prequel trilogy, but I'm having fun watching The Clone Wars.

It looks like the next episode focuses more on a squad of clonetroopers than any of the main characters. It's great that they're using the show to branch out like that. I'm looking forward to it.

The Threepio slapstick in this was 10 times better than the crap they used in Attack Of The Clones.

I think we're just a little more forgiving of it because of the animated format. If Threepio had been smacked by the front of a train and thrown into a pile of containers in the films, it would have been pretty over-the-top.

-Although contrived, I'm glad they brought Padme into the mix. How she doesn't get suspcious of Palpatine after this is beyond me.

Yeah, that was kind of a dead giveaway. But I guess Palps can spin some line about his sources being compromised.

I think Palpatine is in the clear on this one since it was the Intergalactic Banking Clan (who are Separatists) who set the time and location of the meeting according to Palpatine's story. So the trap would be assumed by Padme to have been arranged by the IBC rather than Palpatine himself, who can say he thought it was a genuine peace overture.

Though of course that would have to assume that Palpatine doesn't have up-to-the-minute intel on prominent fleet battles (and their locations), and this certainly would be one of those.

And I didn't understand how the hyperdrive sabotage could send the ship flying into the moon in normal space. That looked more like something that would be done with the sublight drive.
The hyperdrive is linked directly to the navicomputer to avoid stars, planets, and other obstacles. Anakin actually sabotaged the navicomputer rather than the hyperdrive itself, probably by plotting a hyperspace jump point originating inside the moon and telling the computer that the moon wasn't there. So it was simply manuevering into position and crashed into the moon on the way before engaging the hyperdrive.

Yeah, I've thoroughly enjoyed the show so far. I wasn't expecting much after the film, because while it was alright, it wasn't anything terribly impressive. But the show has done a great job so far at making the characters compelling, the action exciting, using humor well for the most part (the battledroids notwithstanding), and building on the SW universe in a creative way.

The stylistic and design choices as far as ships and locations go has been superb and often quite creative. I loved the vertically docking ships at the medical station in the previous episode and the train system aboard the Malevolence. They seem to be using the 3-dimensional nature of space to good effect.

They've also done a great job of depicting the characters. Anakin is actually likable and believable as a leader for a change. Grievous comes off as someone to be feared and run away from like he was in the previous Clone Wars series. They've even developed the personality of the clones and made them less than expendable assets.

I agree on Anakin. He's much more likable here. Then again, perhaps we're also more forgiving with him because of the cartoon format as well. In the movies, he merely had the charisma of a mannequin. Now that he actually looks like one too, maybe it just fits better.

Grevious, on the other hand, I've always enjoyed because of the sheer over-the-top cheese factor. All he needs is a moustache to twirl and he would be complete. Seriously, someone needs to start a drinking game for every time he clenches his fist in this series. Double-shots for a follow-up dramatic sweeping gesture.

Indeed, according to the webcomic prelude to the episode, Amidala went in Palpatine's place because of concerns that the supposed overture might be a trap.

Really enjoying this from what ive seen (i skipped the movie as i heard bad things about it) but this is fun to watch. The battle droid humor will eventually run thin with me but its manageable at the current state. Will definately be continuing to watch.

Maybe they will create an army of NON-JOKING battle droids which will threaten to destroyed the Republic but our heroes will destroy them all before Episode 3 and that's why they went back to the "Roger, Roger" droids in that great movie.

One thing always bothered me about the Seperatist warships. All we ever see are droids as crew, so why in the world do they bother to have breathable air running through the entire ship?!?!

Of course the real answer is so our heroes don't have to wear breath-masks when they invade the ship :p

True, it is a benefit to production, but actually there was at least one Nemoidian on Grievous's ship in Revenge Of The Sith and Grievous himself is a cyborg; part machine, part organic being with a need for atmosphere, at least part of the time. I know he can exist out in the vaccum for brief periods, but he still coughs and had visible lungs in the ROTS. Granted that's a lot of atmosphere for a limited number of characters, but it's precedent. There may be more Nemoidians and humanoids running around monitoring things here and there and of course visiting head honchos (Dooku or Sidious) might want things ready and waiting when they arrive.

Why have corridors and controls at all? If the ship is going to be controlled by robots you might as well just have a bunch of computers hooked directly into the control systems with no annoying buttons and screens. Think about how much smaller the ship could be and how much more efficient it would be to run.

Yes, but then it wouldn't be a huge monstrous beast of a ship to frighten your enemies.

Just having huge droid brains to work the ship sounds easy to damage and break-down in battle. Much better to have a thousand little independent roving brains who can fix repairs.

Plus, if Palpatine was manipulating it all behind the scenes, he'd have to make sure the ships would be compatible with human crew after that pesky Order 66.

Everyone noticed "Hello, there!" from Grievous, ripping off Obi-Wan...or pre-ripping off Obi -Wan, right?

After seeing the movie at the cheap theater this weekend, I wanna see more of Ziro the black drag-queen Hutt. Good ol' fashioned family racism!
