Spoilers Clip from episode one

I think those buildings are an example of arcology architecture. First proposed by Paolo Soleri decades ago, an arcology (architecture + ecology) structure is a self-sufficient building which addresses the issues of population density, while having a minimal impact on the environment.

Is right next to Grand Coulee Dam a good place for three arcologies? It's in the middle of nowhere.

They show more of Picard in his house and vineyard in this video:

Is Akiva okay?
There are 2 Andorians and a new red/white alien at SFHQ.
How do the walk-through transporters know where you wanna go?

Is it just me? Or can anyone else
hear the LCARS sound fx as Picard orders the Earl Grey
?
Yes, TNG LCARS sound! But why is tea now made in fragments by Barclay's neural scan interface? XD

I think it's charming that they have Picard give the dog a little exposition establishing that he's speaking French, so that monolingual English-speakers won't be entirely confused by what's going on.

They've got those vague distant tower structures on the horizon like the AbramsTrek movies:

They're automated megafarms, according to the 2009 movie art book. Although I guess they could be arcologies too.

A very short new 'Picard' promo just dropped:

The dream Picard and the Romulan co-workers must be
his dream of playing poker with Data in the midst of the Mars attack
which was seen in the clip that came out earlier today.

The first time I watched that clip, I thought it was a bad French translation of Picard! No disrespect to Sir P, but his accent could use a little work.

It his defence it is a dead language

Why are we putting very old info about VOYAGER in spoiler tags???

I do believe that we are well past the Six Month embargo on those particular episodes.
:wtf:
WAIT! WHAT? There is a six month rule, cool.

I assume the Voyager info in spoiler tags was a joke?
Edith Keeler dies, man!
Not in my timeline she didn't
#mandelaeffect :shifty:

Proof that Picard has lost his mind in the last twenty years = he orders decaf!!!!!
I assume by telling the walk in part of the transporter.
I once met a lady at train station in Torquey in the southwest of England. She wanted to go Turkey on holiday but the person who sold her the ticket could not understand her accent.

I suppose that one could assume that after a couple of times of mumbling ones stated destination as being Paris, France and ending up in Paraguay...

One would learn to enunciate ones destination loudly and much clearer rather quickly.

  • Could be those transporters only go to one location, a larger transporter hub site from which you can then transport to your final destination. Perhaps for certain places (like Starfleet HQ) you can't just transport in without some sort of pre-screening.
  • Another possibility might be an officer taps their comm badge before walking in and says "Computer, set transport location to XYZ". Civilians would use whatever personal communicator device they have to do the same. It would be the 24th century equivalent of using your phone to tap and pay when going into a subway station.

I find that level of casual transporter technology frightening. What happens if you step through right as there's a power spike/failure; or the AI handling the system glitches? I could see public transporters operated BY living beings (like using an airport/bus terminal in present day); but autonomous AI controlled transporter 'portals' - no thanks.

Damn. This is definitely not the Jean Luc we're accustomed to is it?

Not long to go now! :D

So let’s get it straight. It’s not the question of whether the transporter kills you every time you transport that bothers you. It’s whether it’s manned or autonomous? Name one good transporter chief outside of O’Brian... I’ll take my chances with fully automated system.
Full disclosure: it’s a tv show, hence my opinion. You’ll never catch me in a Tesla with it’s auto driving mode.

Dr. McCoy would be chittin' his trousers.

At first I was a little annoyed at how "seamless" those Transporters were. No standing still. No inputting of destinations.

But thinking on it, being planet based they could lead to a Transporter Hub, like a train station. And there could be fixed/wired connections between those gates, and various Hubs - so no worry about moving targets, or obstructions.

So that could explain the ease of those using them.
