Clash Of The Titans (2009)

Just got back from this one. I thought it was a big improvement on the original film.

i find it funny people are moaning about myths being inaccurate.

THEY'RE MYTHS!

people changed them all the time!

Exactly..there are 3 different origin myths for Pegasus alone! Why can't this be a modern myth retelling?

RAMA

Just got back from this one. I thought it was a big improvement on the original film.

I agree. Although I own the original on DVD and it has a feel of those cheesier 50s science fiction fantasy movies this modern version is a big improvement. It almost renders the older version unwatchable for me.

I think UK posters would get this joke...when I was in the cinema today with my friend to see the film and the bit when the statue of Zeus was being toppled and Pete Postlethwaite said "Soldiers from Argos"..I quipped "Where's their catalogues?"

The section where we were sitting just burst into laughter. :D

Just saw it and god was that an awful movie.. Van Helsing level of awfulness :scream::scream:

I didn't expect much but even those low expectations were tunneled by this movie. From the rape of greek mythology to the pissing on the original (including the awful wink to the mechanical owl of the 1st movie) and ending with no acting/decent story whatsoever this whole thing was a mess from the start to the end.

On a technical side it was well done but this is nothing to really be surprised with big budged Hollywood films.. all you have to do is throw money at it and you'll get results but SFX don't make the movie (few exceptions but this was not one of them).

At least my friends and me had fun ripping the movie to pieces afterwards when we went for a beer.

The mythology is terrible, but the same is true of the original. Perseus the rebel against the gods is perhaps a good idea. But, since Perseus can't kill Hades and he doesn't want to kill Zeus, in the end there's nothing done with it. It's a misfire as a drama, but it's too grim and downbeat for a simple adventure.

For what it was worth I found it enjoyable...I really didn't want to see it and was pretty much dragged to it by my best friend (and I'm a big mythology buff) and I ended up enjoying it. It's a hollywood popcorn flick without much substance so taking it as that I thought it was better than I thought it would be....and for the poster who said it was worse than Van Helsing I have to disagree. I stopped watching that film like twenty minutes into it. I wasn't fond of the two comedic element dudes who reminded me of the little guys from "Willow" they seemed to serve no purpose than just give a few laughs and give Perseus his scorpion shield. I thought the special effects were okay...the cinematography was excellent IMO and the score sucked. Other than those things though I enjoyed it.

We saw it yesterday. It was an enjoyable, newer version. My 12 year old loved it, with his only complaint being that the build up to the kracken was a let down, as he only got a minute or two of screen time before he was turned to stone

We did see it in 3-D which was gawd awful, but my son insisted.

Just got back from an afternoon screening. My girlfriend actaully insisted that we see this. She is a huge swords, sandals and big shiny spears fan. ;) We were both agreed that it was a waste of our time. Storytelling and acting were particularly poor. SFX and design were actually quite good but because of excessive shakycam(TM) and MTV editing I couldn't follow what was going on. Finally, I just don't see why people (directors in particular) like Sam Worthington. He's this decade's Hayden Christiansen. No acting chops and no charisma.

The original was far better, hands down, and this guy understands why.

Oh boy do I disagree. The original has some sentimental charm due to Harryhausen's work, but other than that I love the FX for this new movie the pacing was very good and the story was a nice and enjoyable uncomplicated adventure quest. I do like the original to, don't get me wrong but I find it a bit cheesy..in a good way...but still cheesy.

I love Sam Worthington he's a hunk and a brilliant actor in Avatar and Clash of the titans guess I have to disagree with you about what you said about Sam.

Just saw it this weekend, in 2-D, and I really liked it. Preferred IO as a sidekick vs the damn owl anyday! Yeah Gemma Arterton!!

Besides her I found it overall to be a good update of that B-level movie. I bought into the CGI scorpions, they looked good. I found Medusa to be a much better realized character visually. Pegasus was done well as was the makeup on Calibos.

Missed the helmet of invisibility though. Surely a place could've been found for that in this movie.

Overall I rate it a solid B+
