Should studios have started with Team movies first or solo movies? Are there just too many or it doesn't matter?

We have comic heroes on TV too and they seem to do well too right now, plus there was 10 seasons of SMALLVILLE!

I mainly want to know how you would handle comic book superhero movies.

Personally I would do team movies that have elements of individual focus. Like Justice League I with a Superman theme, Justice League II with Batman theme, Justice League III with a Wonder Woman theme...etc. 6 movies with other characters involved and no solo movies with origins which is a hot topic with fans.

The problem with team movies is no one character ever gets enough screen time to develop much.

I prefer solo movies with the occasional team movie.

Retelling the origin over and over again gets old though. Hollywood needs to move beyond retelling it every 6 years.

For me a compromise would be with the origin on TV as a series with the Team & Solo movies. I doubt that would happen.

Which I think they are already moving towards, at least with the more familiar characters. Batman seems to already be retired in the BvS movie timeframe, Spider-Man will already have been swinging around, urban mything it up for a year by the time he first shows up in a movie and...well that's it really. All the other solo hero movies coming out in the next year or two are either first timers in terms of movie franchises (Doctor Strange), already part of an ongoing series (Wolverine..?) or really do need to have their origin retold (Deadpool).

If DC weren't so hopeless, TV Flash, Arrow, Supergirl and co. would be the characters in the DC film universe, it would all tie in with the big budget Superman, Batman and JLA films.

I can't help thinking that they are going to fail simply due to incompetence.

Well, speaking as a casual fan of all this, I can say that there's a part of me that prefers the TV shows and movies not be tied into each other. I simply don't have the time or interest to watch ALL of it.

I mean, Agents of Shield and Agent Carter bored me to tears, so I'm not watching them. I never really cared for the Iron Man movies, either. On the other hand, I've thoroughly enjoyed both Captain America and Avengers movies, and kinda liked the Thor movies. But I know that as I watch them, I'm missing bits and pieces that more avid watchers know from the movies/shows I haven't watched. It's like riding a wave that's slowly getting away from me. I suspect at some point I'll just give up on the whole lot.

We'll see what happens with DC, but at this point, I'm okay with the disconnected TV and films.

The way Warner Bros. works, there's just no way they can or will pull off anything like the co-ordination required to do what Marvel have been doing. That company is intentionally set-up so that the various divisions actively compete, so for example, the TV people will hamstring of not outright intentionally sabotage the movie people and the home video people, because that is what's in their best interest.
It's very strange and has seriously hampered them in the past in several ways.
