Re: Chuck - 4x01 - Chuck vs. The Anniversary - Discuss/Grade <SPOILERS

Man this show knows how to pick guest stars. Dolph Lundgren, Linda Hamilton, Harry Dean Stanton, and Olivia Munn... in one episode?

Re: Chuck - 4x01 - Chuck vs. The Anniversary - Discuss/Grade <SPOILERS

Never got into this show, but I must say, seeing Linda Hamilton end Dolph Lundgren (while waiting for The Event) was awesome.

Re: Chuck - 4x01 - Chuck vs. The Anniversary - Discuss/Grade <SPOILERS

Chuck is back! *does the happy dance*

An above average.. could have been an awesome if the Buymore gang and Captain Awesome was there but nonetheless a good episode

Standouts were:

- Gen. Beckman now running the BuyMore (i so hope we see more of her in person.. i really like her)

- Olivia Munn :drool: OMG! (very sad that this was just a one off.. for me she is hotter than Strahovski)

- Dolph "I must break you" Lundgren - as has been said this show knows its audience. Between Expendables and Chuck i'm very happy to see him

- BuyMore itself.. awesome concept and i'm curious to see some shenanigans there

- Linda Hamilton kicking ass.. 'nuff said

It was a heck of an introduction to season 4 and i am so looking forward to the whole season. Chuck really has matured over the season as a spy.. remember his girlish screams way back when he was in danger? Gone but he still remains Chuck even with all his new skills. I so laughed when he karatechopped that henchman nearly breaking his hand
Chuck was never really realistic or even logical (come on.. a button that puts the US at Defcon 1??) but i honestly don't care.. it's part of what makes Chuck just so entertaining and it's one of the show where the producers really lucked out with the casting. I can't imagine anyone playing Chuck better than Zach Levi and i'm looking forward to season 5 and on.

Re: Chuck - 4x01 - Chuck vs. The Anniversary - Discuss/Grade <SPOILERS

I didn't catch the "I must break you", but I did get a nice laugh out of "If you die, you die." line.

Big Mike from me. Needs more Olivia Munn.

Re: Chuck - 4x01 - Chuck vs. The Anniversary - Discuss/Grade <SPOILERS

Jeffster and the General were in the opening credits on the same screen for about half a second.

I really liked this episode. Weird not seeing some of the characters, but I'll get used to it. They got right back into the swing of things without dragging a lot of will he/won't he tell Sarah and stuff like that.

What's up with Ma Bartowski? This is gonna be fun.

Re: Chuck - 4x01 - Chuck vs. The Anniversary - Discuss/Grade <SPOILERS

- I've only seen bits and pieces of Repo Man and don't know who Harry Dean Stanton is, so I couldn't appreciate his appearance. I still got a kick out his wanting the menu though.

- Chuck is looking more hunky and less geeky these days.

- Glad to hear that the rest of the cast will be back.

- Agreed on Yvonne. She looked as good as Munn.

I found the General appearing in the credits with Jeffster a bit strange considering they've never interacted, but then it all made sense upon watching the rest of the episode.

I've always thought it was weird that Bonita Friedricy was never in the opening credits until this season considering she's been in all but one or two episodes.

Re: Chuck - 4x01 - Chuck vs. The Anniversary - Discuss/Grade <SPOILERS

I voted Morgan, in part because the show has set such a high level for "Average." It was a little choppy and slow without the usual allotment of LOL moments. Sort of felt like a mini-pilot, which I suppose it was. Here's hoping they get back in the swing of things quickly.

Re: Chuck - 4x01 - Chuck vs. The Anniversary - Discuss/Grade <SPOILERS

That was fun. My brother and I both laughed at the "I must break you". Awesome. Linda Hamilton was great too. Spy Mom kickin' ass! Aw...Casey misses Chuck. I'm not too thrilled with Ellie being in the dark again. Hopefully it won't last too long. The keeping it secret stuff is a little old.

I hope they bring Olivia Munn back as she looked awesome.:drool::drool: Not as awesome as Yvonne though.:drool::drool: The sexting pics were awesome. Except for the Chuck parts. :D

- Did they mention Die Hard at the beginning? If so, that's weird since the show supposedly takes place in the Die Hard universe.

What on Earth prompts you to say that?

Huh? Are you sure? I could have sworn she was in the opening credits last season too.

Reginald VelJohnson, who played Sgt. Al Powell in the first two Die Hard movies reprised his role for an episode of Chuck. Turns out he's Big Mike's cousin.

That's called a joke or homage. It's not meant to be taken seriously, and can't reasonably be taken to mean that Chuck and Die Hard take place in the same fictional universe.

By that logic, Arrested Development and The X-Files would have to take place in the same universe as Law & Order and The Wire just because Richard Belzer played versions of John Munch in all four shows.

I am currently watching the episode of the X-Files with Munch. Creepy.

Tell that to Tommy Westphall. http://home.vicnet.net.au/~kwgow/crossovers.html :techman:

Re: Chuck - 4x01 - Chuck vs. The Anniversary - Discuss/Grade <SPOILERS

All told, I found it to be a very good episode. As someone said earlier, it did seem like a mini-pilot of sorts. But that's probably a good thing. The casting, as mentioned, was incredible, and I'm really looking forward to where the season goes from here.

Buy-more trap chute. Heh.

Never went with the idea that Chuck takes place in the Die Hard universe eh?

A lot of fans like to make a literal connection between shows and movies when crossovers like this happen. It's where the mind and imagination go. And in Chuck's case, I don't think there was anything prior to last night's throwaway line to suggest that Sgt. Powell's appearance was nothing more than an homage, so a real connection seemed plausible. You do have a point though in that sometimes these things aren't meant to be taken seriously. You have to take them on a case-by-case basis.

The premiere was just average for me.

Though it relieves some of the more incredible aspects of Chuck, Morgan and Casey being able to leave work at any time and take endless vacations, I'm not a fan of the Buy More becoming a dedicated CIA front operation with Beckman posing as its manager. It's beneath her. Plus, the Buy More is known to half the world's criminal and spy organizations at this point; how does it make sense to relocate there?

While the Repo Men and Lundgren inside jokes were fun, they weren't really "funny," and this episode lacked the humor of the rest of the series.

Was the stuntman and body double budget reduced this season? Much of the action seemed to take place offscreen, though they covered it up well for dramatic purposes.

Ellie is kind of annoying, so I didn't miss her too much, but is Awesome no longer on the show for budget or other reasons? I hope he comes back soon if he's still around.

I'm sure the show will be back in top form soon enough, I just found this premiere to be fairly boring, and don't like the need to separate Chuck and Sarah again for more angst. Hopefully that ends with this episode.

But Chevy Chase also exists in the Chuck-verse and no one thinks he looks like a Fulcrum mastermind or vice versa. And if you think about a past episode, Rocky IV also exists in the Chuck-verse. :p

When Lundgren used the EMP at the beginning, he should've said, "I have the power."

Since they can't bring back Robert Patrick to butt heads with Linda Hamilton... how about some Ron Perlman as a former flame? :)
